Question about Jeep CJ5

1 Answer

I have a 1980 cj5 jeep 4 cylinder I'm missing one wire on my altenator its a GM altenator. On the plug I have one brown wire with resistance, but the other is gone. I need to now what the other prong needs or where it wires up to. I have tested it by temporarly hooking up 12V to it, it begins to charge but way to high voltage. Any help would be great. thanks Robert

The idle mixture screws were nearly 3 turns out, I think i have them somewhere around 2.5 turns right now.

I need a smog diagram for a 1980 gm motor

Dave, you will need to find out which GM motor you have in 1980 GM probably had 40 car models considering Chev, Olds, Pont, Catalac, Buick ... Then you will have to find the info on that engine.. I suggest you try your local library, for an old book. or possibly advertise on Craigs list for literature or factory manual once you find out which engine you have.

How do i check my transmission fluid on my 1980

Normally there will be a plug, about 5/8" square on side of transmission about halfway up or higher that comes out and you simply use your finger in the hole. slide finger in to first joint, and bend it down. If it is touching fluid, your good, if not add until it does. Check manual if you still have it, or ask at parts store, but most likely 80/90 gear oil.

Can't get my headlights to work on my 1980 cj5 jeep

Most likely the dimmer switch is bad. It's a very common Jeep problem. If that's not it I would check the grounds to make sure they are good.
