94 Olds 98. What size socket do we need to replace a snapped front brake rotor? My cousin is a mechanic but can't find a socket big enough in his tool kit. We can go buy one, but need to buy the right one the first time as the only shop is across town and the car is undrivable.

You are talking about the center axle nut, its about a 32mm but this doesnt need to be removed to replace the rotor, all you need to do is remove the caliper and the braket and then beat back of rotor to break free from the hub and then it slides out.

i don't think that's what they're talking about. When my husband asked over the phone to CanTire they said it would either be a 32 metric or a 34 metric. I haven't seen the car since I was dropped off at work yesteday so couldn't even tell you where the bolt is they need out.

What tools are needed such as socket sizes for front brake and rotor replacement on 2006 saturn vue fwd 4 cylinder

Knowing what socket size to use for your brakes can be tricky, because sometimes it can be changed from how it originally was. I discovered that last month when I was trying to change out my brake pads for my 2005 car and was consulting the manual. If you bought your 2006 Saturn brand new, then you can probably consult the manual and be positive that those sizes are correct. However, if you bought your vehicle old and don't know too much of its work history, then you should consult both the manual and a mechanic before messing with your brake system. http://www.godfreybrake.com/services

What size socket do I use to remove a front rotor?

You don't need a socket. The rotor is held by a torx flathead screw. I stripped mine and drilled it out. It is not necessary. Remove the brakes and this little screw from the rotor and it will come off. If it won't. you need to watch a you tube video about removing a stuck rotor. It is fairly simple. But hard to explain in words.

How to remove front rotors on 2008 dodge grand caravan sxt 3.8l

You will need a big C clamp and a 21 mm socket. Remove the wheel. Use the C clamp to compress the front brake piston: Just put the screw side of the c clamp on the outside brake pad and the frame part of the c clamp on the back of the caliper and turn the c clamp in until it won't compress further. You don't have to over-do it. Don't force it and don't do this with the back brakes...they require a tool that rotates the piston as it compresses... Hint: rent it from auto zone for free.
Once the piston is compressed, use the 21mm socket to remove the two caliper bolts and then tie up the caliper so it doesn't hang down in the way and stress the brake lines.
Then you need to bang on the rotor with a mallet until you free it and it will come off. You may need to hammer it pretty hard.
That's it.
Assemble in reverse.

How can i replace front Ford Taurus Wheel Bearings, ive get out everything brake cliper, rotor and everything alse but when i start taking off those tree bolts i see that i cant get out the top one because...

Well you have to remove the whole assembly. With a 30mm deep socket
remove the axle nut,do this before jacking the car up.Then jack the
car up and remove the wheel. Then the tie rod end, brake caliper and
lower ball joint.Remove the cross bolt and brake hose bolt on the
strut.Pull the assembly off of the strut. Then you need a press to
press the old bearing out after you remove the inner snap ring.Press
the new bearing in and install a new outer seal and a new snap ring.

What size socket do I need to change the oil and brakes.

The oil drain plug is a 13 mm. The tools for the brakes, a 10 mm socket for the caliper pins, a flat head screwdriver, or a meduim size prybat to get the calipers out of the mounting bracket, and a 4" C-clamp to compress the pistons into the calipers so you can put the new pads on.

Remove front Brake Rotor

Try opening up the caliper with a flat screwdriver thru the opening in the middle of the housing.pry on the rotor and pull towards you to push the rotor back. That should loosen it up enough for you to get it of the rotor. If that dont work you probably got a stuck caliper and have to release the brake line and do the procedure again. GOOD LUCK

Need to replace front rotors and brake pads

All you have to do is take off your calipers and the rotor will slide right off. Use a C clamp to push the piston of the caliper back in so you can put your new brakes on.

When i apply my brakes on my 98 contour the front end shakes

Sounds like you have bad brake pads or rotors ..if you are not mechanical take them in somewhere ......if the brake pads are left too long the metal will wear away the rotors and then it all needs to be replaced....hopefully just the pads need replacing but it sounds like if it is shaking that bad rotors are gone too. usually the pads will make a sqeaking sound when the get to worn so you know that they need replacing.

How to replace front brake rotor on 4x4 6 cylinder 1989 toyota truck

How to change one quickly Camo method
Pull locking hub cap and remove snap ring.
Unbolt seal/felts on back of knuckle.
Unbolt brake caliper and tie out of the way. (can be skipped if you have long brake lines)
Unbolt steering arm. (leave bottom knuckle cap alone)
Pull entire outer knuckle assembly off of axle.
Swap in your parts.
Put it back together.
It's a big-time shortcut since you don't need to mess with the 54mm socket or wheel bearings.
Some folks like to swap out their solid rotors for vented rotors. This is a simple and somewhat inexpensive modification. I did this swap because my brakes were getting very hot and making some very annoying noises. If you can change your brakes you should not have any problem with this swap.
