Question about 2002 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

Kia problems I have a 2002 kia sportage that the check engine light came on, had it read, it was code p1309. I can't find where the chassis accelerator sensor is located to check it out. Is it safe to drive like this? Also I am unable to get it out of park w/out using the bypass near the shifting lever. Thanks

The sensor is on the passenger side under the hood, it tells the PCM to ignore misfire signals from the engine when on rough roads, so yes it is safe to drive.

Have a 2000 Kia Sportage with following codes P0116, P0453, pending p1309.

I would probably clear the codes and drive it to see what if any codes come back again.
Code 116 is for the coolant temp sensor being below standard, meaning the sensor is telling the computer the engine is cold when it should be warmed up. Could be a faulty sensor or the engine is low on coolant or it really is cold and the thermostat is faulty.
Code 453 is for the EVAP system pressure sensor being high - the computer vents the gas tank while you are driving and the sensor detected a high pressure in the tank or the vent system.
Code 1309 is for a sensor called the Chassis Accelerator Sensor - it detects motion in the vehicle. It is usually mounted somewhere in the engine compartment.

Check gngine light

Ok I think you meant code P0171, this means the fuel trim is always lean, you need to check for a engine vacum leak, maybe a cut or damaged PCV hose or any other hose that is in the vaccum system, I have read other Kia owners (Kia Forums, you should join one) reports of this same code, most found it not to be the O2 sensor but a vacuum leak.
