Question about 1996 Honda Civic

1 Answer

1996 honda wont start

A few days a go i drove my 1995 civic (manual) to work and everything was fine. got ready to leave and try to start it and the car would not start, wouldnt even try to turn over or crank just no response. I thought it could be my battery tried jumping and no response. so i just pushed it and popped the clutch to get it started and it started right up. i had an starter kill security system(Auto Page) that was installed by the previous owner on it so i thought it could be that so i took it to an authorized Auto Page dealer to check it out , he completely removed the system and hooked the ignition wire back to it original setting straight from the ignition system to the starter still no response from the car. by the way my lights and everything work. he also checked the fuses and those were fine. thinking it could be my starter i took it off and got it and my battery tested at AutoZone and both passed. So I am puzzled, the car give me no feed back so i dont know what to check next. one last thing i notice, i had my lights on and try to start it and my lights did not even dim. usually head lights dim when u try to start up a car. any suggestion on what to check next because it seem like something simple and i dotn want to take it to a mechanic and get ripped off. my neighbor said it could be a relay but but what relay would that be and where to find it. i have been easily able to start it by just rolling out my drive way and popping the clutch. the car runs great otherwise. thanks for your help, i had already checked those. i finally got it figured out though. there is a button my clutch is suppose to hit to allow me to start the car, its a safety device to prevent you from starting in gear without engaging the clutch and the car taking off right away. so i need to replace that rubber part thats suppose to hit the clutch. in the mean time i just cut the wires leading to the switch and connected them directly. so i can start up without engaging the clutch but i gotta keep in mind the car will launch if i ever start in gear. simple problem but it was a pain and took 3 days to figure out. Firestone wanted to charge $180 to fix it, but I went to AutoZone and they told how ended up sosting me less than $4. thanks again for responding though.

It could possible be a relay, but the more lickly suspest would be the electrical part of the ighition switch. this has been a very common problem with all models of honda's for many years.

A few days ago, I turned my car, a 1995 Ford Taurus, on and everything was working fine and then it was almost as if the car had stalled, but it was still driving. The radio turned off, the power steering...

BY WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE A BELT ISSUE, WHAT I WOULD IS OPEN THE HOOD AND LOOK DOWN AND SEE IF THE BELT IS STILL THERE, IF IT IS GRAB IT AND PULL ON IT MAKE SURE IT ISN'T TO LOOSE. IF ALL IS GOOD THERE I WOULD GET THE ALTANATOR CHECKED OUT SOULD BE PUTTING OUT 14.6 VOLTS WHEN RUNNING. TRY THAT HOPE IT HELPS YOU.

Have you had the water pump replaced yet? Could possibly be the water pump making noise because it's about to go.
