AC knob stuck - unable to switch to any other setting

My AC knob is stuck between the foot & console air vents. It will not switch to defrost. I would almost break it off if I try any harder. What could be causing this? It almost feels like something may be stuck not allowing me to switch the vent direction. How do I get in there to take a look?

On the 2002 Lnacer there was a design flaw on the control for the flap under the dash on the driver side. Call Mitsu they have a new design for less the 10.00 (Cost at Dealer in PHX.) It is taking out all of two screws and replacing the plastic switching mechanisim. DO NOT FORCE THE KNOB you will break the knob and that is costly to replace since you have the change out the whole housing. To get by for the time bieng you can move it manually down below until you can find the part and fix it.

Either the control cable is bound up or more likely the door inside the air ducting is jammed or warped, you will have to gain access to the door to check this out, you may have to remove the dash assembly.

There's a TSB on this issue, it happens alot. Check that out. Also, I have a Lancer and when the knob gets hard to turn on mine I carefully turn it to the left and then to the right and it always loosens it enough to get ti on what setting I want.

my knob broke from turning it because it became hard to turn--- i think the actuator is jammed or broke because even with a new knob, it turns freely and does not change selections.

Does this have auto temp control where you set the temp number or does it have a knob you set 1-5. I'll bet you have auto temp. and you need to replace the blower control module under the hood.

Could it be a possibility that your switch is broken to that setting. Try popping off the knob with a screw driver, taking pair of pliers and twisting the knob. Feel for it switching settings.

Heating / air conditioning control stuck to front defrost vents

There is a vacuum leak under the hood. Find the vacuum line on the passenger side where it comes through the firewall and follow it to the engine. You system needs vacuum to operate and without it the default setting is on defrost for safety reasons.

WILL NOT SWITCH AIR FLOW STUCK IN DEFORST VENT

when your car is in defrost it has an ac cycling it removes the moisture then sends the air over the heater core depending on how warm you set it you can feel warm or cold but the ac is always cycling...ridding the moisture...you need a good ac tech it will be okay...its just expensive going into the heater core if needed...!

Heating/AC mode door does not move2004 Silverado 1500

If it is a ATC automatic control temperature , you will have to find the code. if it is vacuum controlled you will have to check the vacuum hoses that control the mode door. maybe something fell into the defrost vents and it got stuck. the only solution for that is to try fishing out the object through the vents..
