I am trying to find out how to remove a ford probe sunroof. I have been told there are four nuts holding it and you have to remove the lining. So how do I remove the lining? Is the lining the inside cloth part of the roof?

Unless you have a really good set of tools and a factory service manual I would not attempt this, it is very time consuming even when you have done it before, if you screw it up you are looking at 1000's to fix it if the parts are still avaliable, which I doubt.

I took mine off. I did rip about a inch on the carpet trying. There are 7 plastic fasteners that you need to pop off (used a long flat screwdriver). Once you take it off, you will see the 4 bolts under the sunroof that are on the bracket. You do not need to take of the tracking rail to remove the sunroof. Not too hard, just gotta try.

If your motor is audible and your fuses and connectors are okay, you may have to take a close look at the plastic gear parts up in the roof. The nylon parts do wear out since they are in the roof and more exposed to different temperatures. If any of that mechanism fails then your sunroof will stop working even if the motor is still good. It is a bit of a PITA to get to it since you will have to remove the headliner to get at the mechanism and then identify the worn part and replace it CAUTION: The sunroof system is timed from the factory so that the motor shuts off automatically when the sunroof window reaches a certain position. Extreme care must be taken when removing the motor, timing may be thrown off causing possible damage to the sunroof system. Anytime the motor is removed from the sunroof assembly the sunroof glass panel must be in the FULLY CLOSED POSITION or the unit will be out of timing. The drive motor cannot be reset to the park position after being removed.
CAUTION: The sunroof motor should only be powered through the vehicle battery and sunroof wire harness. Applying power to the sunroof motor leads will cause failure of the control module.

Important: This sunroof system is timed from the factory in order to allow the actuator to shut off automatically when the sunroof window reaches a certain position. Slide the sunshade fully rearward. Move the sunroof window to the vent position. Remove the sunroof screws (two on each side). Remove the sunroof window from the module.

The sunroof is powered by the same circuit breaker that power's your power window, so if your windows work than the circuit breaker should be good. You needed test the switch to verify if works with; on the factory sunroof system the roof is controled by a sunroof module the module receives a signal from the switch then throws voltage to the sunroof motor. The motor and module are located between the sunroof assembly and windshield underneath the head liner. You would reconnected the switch and test to see if the sunroof motor is getting power when the switch is in use by testing the dark green wire when closing and a light green wire when opening. Test these wires at the sunroof motor with a ohm meter or test light. Also, check this procedure to repair...

The bigest problem with this model jeep sunroof is the cable conduit in the rear of sunroof is broken loose. can be accesed by removing the headliner. But the tracks are accessed from the sunroof opening after removing the glass. the part department at the dealership can give you a breakdown basicly the only replacable parts are the tracks, Price about $200.00 each.

Replace sunroof glass instructions for 1994 Acura Integra

no you should not have to take the head liner out.. when the sunroof is open you should see 3 or 4 screws one both sides.. all you have to do is remove the screws but its better to have a second person so they can hold the glass while your removing the screws so you don't drop the glass..then just put on some cloth gloves(prefered) to hold up and install the new glass. do removal in reverse to install.

It is a rather involved procedure requiring the removal of the headliner and all the related trim work of the interior of your car. If you have never done it before it is quite likely to cost less to take it to a dealership for repair.

My sunroof has opened and now it won't close. Any clues?

You will have to remove the sunroof motor, and the sunroof glass. Then you can move the guide tracks seperately until they are in the closed position. Then you can put the glass and motor back in, remove the power source (fuse or disconnect wire harness) to prevent any accidental opening until you can get it fixed. Chances are that a guide track or cable is broken, this can be a costly fix. Do not take it to the dealership, they will only want to install a whole sunroof unit. Take it to a local shop that installs aftermarket sunroofs
