1998 petrol transit starts then stop again

Sounds like a fuel starvation issue. You may want to start with something simple like changing the fuel filter, and move on from there. After replacing the fuel filter, check fuel system pressure to ensure it's in the right range (around 47 PSI for most fuel injected gasoline (petrol) engines). If the fuel pressure is low, it may be the pre-filter on the fuel pump, or the fuel pump itself.

2000 Kia Sadona...Stops from time to time. Usually when coming to a stop or taking off. Replaced fuel pump. Sometimes difficult for engine to turn over. New battery. Once I moved electrical connector...

Sounds like a possible crankshaft position sensor. It is located behind the harmonic balancer, inside the timing cover. It sets by the timing belt, so if you have a loose timing belt it could hit the crank sensor or throw up pieces of itself onto the crank sensor. A bad crank sensor can mimic a fuel pump issue. 721c6cee-d9f3-4086-a166-f472fa0318af.gif

Fuel gauge goes down at stop but rises again when accelerating.

Needle should move a little bit upon stop/go.If it is a lot would have to say it is the potentiometer in the sending unit fuel pump.

1983 Mercedes Benz 240D; engine does not stop when key is turned OFF.

Diesel car engines are shut off by an electrical switch on the fuel pump, called the 'stop solenoid'. If you can locate the fuel pump, try to find the single electrical wire to it and disconnect it while the engine is running. (Watch out for moving parts!). The engine should stop. If this is the case, try unscrewing and cleaning it in diesel. Failing that, a new one shouldn't be too expensive.

Just changed fuel pump and now rough idle surges and when stopped at red light my check engine light comes on but goes off when i start moving again

Did you just do the pump or the whole module. If you just did the pump the hose at the fuel pump may not be adeqautely secure this can result in low fuel pressure. Just for giggles remove the vacuum hose at the fuel pressure regulator and see if it make a difference if it does redo the fuel pump, secure the fuel pump with new clamps (not those plastic ones)

2000 mercury grand marquis 4.6 Intermittent problem. 35,000. miles. Problem engine died several times wile driving. Also after car is parked from a drive will not start. Found that the fuel pump is not...

I'd have to test when problem is ongoing. When you first turn on key, no crank, you should hear the pump run for a few seconds then stop. For initial prime, the computer doesn't need rpm signal. Engine cranking, the computer needs to see rpm signal or it won't ground the fuel pump relay. W/o rpm signal, no spark at the plugs and no fuel injector pulse. I know your talking about fuel, but, when problem is ongoing, check spark and fuel injector pulse, engine cranking.
Intermittent problems are a pain, have to test when problem is ongoing.
