The revs should be around 700- 900 rpm while in neutral. Revs about 2 (2000 rpm) is absolutely abnormal, and of course the vehicle will **** with any gear change. Furthermore, continued operation of the car in this condition will damage the transmission. Seems like the idle sensor, MAP sensor or other part is working incorrectly. Take vehicle to a shop for a scan of the computer and repair, in order to save the VERY costly transmission.

My car is in Drive but does not go above 2nd Gear? What is wrong with it. Saurn Sl '93

Who care about the Service soon light, since you stated you are a 1993 you are OBD 1,this is not a bad thing but if you pulled a code it would probable read 02 lean bank 1, The real problem is the whole transmission,Wont rev higher in other word its slipping, need to rev higher just to start moving ,well its slipping the solution is a rebuilt transmission,or a better car.

Sounds like its in neutral when in drive

If it's an automatic trans and you mean it revs real high(like in nuetral)then jerks into gear then the ****** is going bad.check to make sure the fluid level is right(do not overfill) and check to see wether you are leaking any ****** fluid. Also if you pull the ****** dipstick and it gives off a burnt smell then you know its going up.

Gear shift cable 2005 chevrolet cavalier

Had the same problem. to shift gear manually with your hands. Look under the brake fluid (about a foot down) and there is a flat piece of metal. On the end of it on the bottom is a little rod with a round end. That is where the shift cable connects. pushing it toward the driver side of the car will put it in park. And if you count the number of clicks from park you can change gears. For example: 1 click from park is Reverse, 2 clicks is Neutral, 3 clicks is Drive. That is if it is all the way towards the driver side. Don't force it. when it stops clicking dont push it anymore. Hope this helps.

I changed the gear box of my 2007 corolla about 5 months ago. Then I noticed the car jerks or kind of pushes forward whenever i change my gear from park/neutral to drive or reverse. Please what do you...

A delay of more than a second in shifting from the neutral to drive or reverse gear, could mean that there is a problem with the transmission. If on changing from a neutral or park position to the drive or reverse gear, the car does not immediately catch the gear and move forward or backward, then it could mean a problem in the transmission. If you change gears, and you hear a sudden clunk or sudden jolt or shudder, then the shifting is not smooth and there could be a problem with the gearbox. If the engine rpm keeps increasing but there is no increase in the speed, then it could be a sign of the transmission slipping. Most automatic transmission systems, nowadays, have a check engine light or an OD light, which flashes if there is a problem with the engine.

I have a 2003 grand am. When i hit the gas in park or neutral the rpms get to 4k then dip down back to 3500 and bounce around there

on most newer vehicles the rev limiter is lower in park or neutral than in gear. i dont know why gm is doing this i just know that its normal. i dont know what year they started this but im guessing that is what your seeing. does it run fine in gear?

My car dies and jerks when placed into drive but is smooth as silk when in reverse how do i fix and wat is it

First on my suspect list is a transmission problem. Check the level of your transmission fluid, and if low, add to the MAX line. If the problem persists, report to your nearest transmission shop.
Also, experiment with gears other than Drive - see if car has same problem in 1st gear, and 2nd
gear (if your car has it). Also try starting car in Neutral - a properly functioning transmission will let you start your car in only 2 gears: PARK and NEUTRAL, thanks to the neutral safety switch.
