Question about 2005 Chrysler 300
When you push the break pedal an electromagnet releases the gear knob. check the wires to this electromagnet. this should fix your problem hopefully.

One reason for that I have experienced is when the torque on the parking pawl inside the transmission is particularly great, such as if you put the trans in park on a steep incline. If that is the case, then if you can recruit a husky by-stander or two to push on which ever end of the car is low so as to take the pressure off the pawl it will release. Even on level ground there might be something that is putting torque on the front wheels, so gently rocking the car back and forth might free it up.
The other thing to is the shifter lock has broke and needs to be replaced but there is a over ride for you to unlock it but you need to remove the center console where the shifter is to get to it. Here is a link that helped me with the inlaw's car. http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=73876
Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to answer any more questions.

have your transmission fluid drained and replaced. after replacing the fluid, try to move the gear shifter, if still does not work, have your transmission checked by a transmission mechanic for detailed diagnosis

Go to the Prindle switch where the cable meets the transmission and check if it has not unhooked. Move the shifter all the way to the Park position and adjust/tighten.
