My nissan cefiro 1997 suddenly drops rpm and goes back again to normal.sometimes it totally shuts down.it also happens sometimes while im driving that the car jerks losing power and then it will come back again to normal.

It could be a clogged fuel filter or you could have a old gas coated inside the carbrator. Seafoam will fix that up in a hurry. Don't be supprised if it blows smoke its cleaning all the junk bout of your carbrator. I would start with the simpelist things first.

Defiantly get a Haynes manual it will trouble shoot you through your problem.
try cleaning the throttle with carburetor cleaner you may have carbon build up and this will cause problem similar to the one your having. if this information has been helpful please let us know
the dash voltage egulator probably went bad. First,check the battery & make sure you have 12 volts,not running. Check it again running & you should see about 14.5 volts. If that's good,I'd replace the guage assembly.
Check your mass airflow meter. If it's bad, at least on my 1990 300ZX, the car won't rev over 2400RPM (it's a safeguard built into the ECU of the car). Grab one from a scrapyard and swap it in and see if that fixes the issue.
