Question about 2001 Ford Escort ZX2
Faulty or misadjusted brake switch.
Posted on Aug 18, 2008
I had the same problem, there is a small blue rubber spacer that sits between the brake light switch plunger an the break pedal. These get brittal and fall apart, with out it in place, the plunger on the brake light switch is allowed to come out far enough to turn on the lights. On my car there was actually a spare attached to the switch bracket. These can also be ordered at the Ford Dealer. Bt the way, this same part is used on the clutch, so if you find about an inch of play in the pedal, this is the culperate. All the best!

Your break has slipped try pulling the break forward if that doesnt solve the problem take it to the shop to get the break readjusted
