you need the compressor running to get freon into the system
using gauges on a manifold you allow the compressor to suck the gas in to the system until you get a pressure reading at the high side gauge

you would blow the computer and every sensor and light on the car. They sell an aftermarket altenator that is a higher amp. add another battery to the trunk and an offspring wire from the front battery to the rear to keep it charged

The car should have R134 freon (and should have a label in the engine compartment indicating so). R134 ports are two different sizes and your charge hose should only fit the correct port

get a leak detector kit from your local auto parts store. it will show you where the leak is.
