Question about 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Blown tailight fuse

I keep blowing the 10A fuse that works the taillights and dashboard light. I've checked the lights and they all seem to work until the fuse blows (usually 2-3 seconds)

It did have a wiring harness connected to the left rear light assembly. I unhooked the wiring harness and reconnected to the light assembly as it was from the factory and it worked. It no longer blows fuses!!! Thanks for the help.

I have the same problem on my 99 prelude. A mechanic told me it will cost me 150 bucks to strip the car down to its basics so he can try to locate the underlying issue. What should I do?? I already got ticketed by the Police!! I know its not a fuse problem because I've change that out twice already.

I will bet that you have some type of trailer wiring harness installed. If so, remove it. I have observed this condition many times. It seems that corossion gets into the trailer wiring and shorts out that particular fuse. Hope this helps.

Tailights,Dashboard Lights Fuse Keeps Blowing Out

One thing to check and I have come across this a couple of times is that some factory stereos used a black wire for the stereo illumination, if you have wired the black (earth) from the new unit to this wire it will cause the fuse to blow, disconnect the earth from this wire and wire it directly to the vehicle.

WHAT CAUSES THE TAIL LIGHTS AND DASHLIGHTS TO GO OUT ON 1983 TOYOTA TRUCK?

GOOD ADVISE--I ALSO LEARNED THAT THERE MAY BE FUSES IN UNDER THE HOOD ALSO. FOUND OUT TODAY THAT IF THE DOME LIGHT DON'T WORK THEN IT'S FUSE COULD BE BLOWN AND HINDER THE CIRCUIT TOO. I'M NOT GOOD ON VOLTAGE READING , BUT DO HAVE A TEST LIGHT. IF NO FIRE AT THE COMMON TAIL LIGT-DASH LIGHT FUSE , THEN THAT MIGHT NARROW IT DOWN. I HAD THE SAME TROUBLE IN MY 1990 FORD XLT LARIAT AND WAS BLOWING THE TAILLIGHT FUSE. IT WAS A SHORT IN THE EXTERNAL TRAILER KIT HARNESS WHICH CAUSED FUSES TO BLOW REGUARLY. WHERE IS RELAY FOR TAILIGHTS AND OTHER FUSES UNDER THE HOOD??

Fuse keeps blowing dash lights and tail lights dont work jeep cherokee sport 1999

There are several fuses involved. I need to know which one(s). As for the taillights, the primary power source is 20A fuse 17 in the power distribution center. The tan/blk wire connects to the headlamp switch which, in park position, applies +12 volts through 10A fuse 7 in the junction block to the left tail light. The headlamp switch, in park position, also apples +12 volts through 10A fuse 23 in the junction block to the right tail light.

I need to know which fuse is blowing the instrument lights so you will have to follow up

Keep blowing taillight fuse on 1995 jeep xj sport country

The taillight circuit includes the front parking lights.
You would need to take the bulbs out and check each socket for a short to ground.

check the parking light fuse or taillight fuse to make sure it has not blown. replace it if it has blown and see if the lights work or if the fuse blows again. if it blows when you turn the lights on then you have a short circuit that needs repaired. if the fuses are good ,then most likely the headlight switch is bad not allowing the taillights or dash lights to work.

My tailights and dashlights won't work because the fuse blows.

it sounds like a short in the park lights.you will have to start by disconnecting headlight switch then install fuse, then check all park light bulbs and there sockets, its gonna be a bad switch or socket, enless theres a wire touching ground ,but start with the switch and checking all sockets. hope this helps.

Keep blowing fuse for rear taillights and dashboard lights

Sounds like loose wires. Had a similar problem with my 03 Durango. Kept blowing fuses when I put them in. Came to find out my trailer wiring harness had fried and was shorting out.

Tailights only work on directional and brakes ,no running lights

Usely dash lights and taillights are on the same fuse, if you don't have dash lights you won't have tailights. If you got dash lights than you could have blown bulbs or maybe a bad headlight switch.
