Engine sounds like its working hard

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango with 5.9 Magnum. The engine sounds like it is really roaring when I give it a little gas. I checked the Tac and I’m not running any higher RPM but it really sound like it is running hard.

If it does it then stops then sounds like your fan clutch working and is normal

I had the same problem with my 97 Dodge Ram Van. The fan clutch was not working properly. I drove it like that untill the fan clutch actually broke. I'm in the process of replacing the fan clutch..... The van sounded like a jet taking off..I was told the fan was almost locked and rotated the same RPM's as the engine. It was suppose to "free spin", locking up and spinning more as the engine heated up.

2004 Dodge Durango. when started it idles high to 2000 RPMS then when on the road it stays at an rpm, you dont have to push the pedal it just goes by itself.

It sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve is stuck. This will give you a fixed idle it can stick at high idle or low or anywhere in between. If you take off the air cleaner you see where the air is getting sucked into a small slot or hole. spray some carb and choke cleaner in there let it sit for about 5 minutes then start the engine. spray a little at a time with the engine running till the idle comes down by itself. This should take about 2-3 minutes. If it wont come back on its own take the 2 torx screws out and remove it clean with carb and choke cleaner and replace. If it still fails it will need to be replaced. MOST of the time cleaning it will work

they get stuck on there really good, i have a 2000 durango, and i had tu use a scredriver, and hammer around it, it was so stuck by the time i got it off of there, i had ro replace the pan it was so bent around the lip.... you could use a screwdriver and hammer between the pan and engine, try to barely tap it the screwdriver between them, all the way around the pan.. hope you have better luck than i did..

I need to know where the throttle position sensor is in my 2000 dodge durango v8 magnum 5.9

I have a 4.7 but I believe the TSP is in the same place - looking at the throttle body from the drivers side fender, there should be two electrical plugs. The TSP is the bottom plug - disconnect the connector, and loosen the two torx screws holding it in - 5 min fix.

My 2000 dodge durango failed the emissions due to a bad catalytic converter... The check engine light did not come on. Could there be any other reason why it would fail?

really need more info on your durango ? millage , engine , other causes for poor emissions are weak motors , poor gas , tuneup problems and worn emission parts like lazy O2 sensors and catalytic converters
