96 Dodge Dakota .....NO SPARK

I have a 1996 Dakota with the 3.9 Liter. I lost spark. I replaced the Hall Effect pick up and the Crank sensor. The Ignition fuse is good. I bought a repair manual and attempted to diagnose the problem. When following the manual to test the coil and the distributor I had a problem because the illustration pics were not the same. I am getting a negative voltage reading on one of the coil wires. Any ideas? Can you tell me what kind of reading I should be looking for from my voltage meter on the coil wire or such.

I had a very similar problem with my 95 dakota. I had recently changed my alternator, after which my truck would not start, due to no spark. I retraced all my wires from the coil and computer and came across a ground wire that i missed putting on when i reinstalled my alternator. It went under one of the alternator mounting bolts. after reconecting that ground wire the truck started and ran fine. Its amazing how something so simple caused me so much trouble.

I have a 96 dodge dakota with a 3.9 V6 i have spark and fuel pressure but it wont fire at all i was told it could be the crank sensor

Always check for spark at the coil first, than see if its going to the spark plugs, I have had bad crank sensor and truck still started. But did you do a scan, get it scaned and see what codes it shows.

No spark

Check your Hall Effect Sensor and Crankshaft Sensor. It's located on the Bellhousing. Without a lift, you may not be able to get to it, I can't.

I have no spark from the coil changed crank sensor and checked to see if the distributor sitll turned and it did when rolled over

try changing the hall effect sensor. this is the round plastic part under the distributor rotor with about a six inch wire coming out of it with a three prong plug. If you go to the parts store and they are having trouble looking it up have them look under the name pick up coil. Have you checked the ignition coil?

you should have power on one terminal of the coil connector when cranking engine,i prefer using a test light..put the lead of your test light on battery positive and check other coil connector terminal..it should flash/pulse..if it is,you need an ignition coil..if not,you may have an engine controller problem..also check harness near controller and fuseblock for corroded wires..controller may not be powered up properly

'96 Dodge Dakota will crank, but won't run.

a bad crank sensor or dist pickup plate can cause this.... check the fuses in the fuse block under the hood for any blown ..... a bad auto shut down relay may cause it .....try putting a test light on the green and orange wire and see if it lights up when you try to crank it
