Latch in the door has been rotated around so that the door won't close

My granddaughter rotated the piece in the driver's door around so that the slotted side is not facing in toward the inside and I cannot close the door

Try having the door handle open when you try to move the latch. I had this same problem and use pliers to grab the sides of the latch when the door handle was open.

Have you tried using the key to unlock the door? I'm assuming you're referring to the lock mechanism. You can also try the remote (if you have one), click twice, it should unlatch and allow you to close the door. Let me know how you make out. good luck! countrycurt0

What do I need to do in order to get the back door on the passenger side to close? A tech from AAA said I needed a spring for the door latch?

if it won`t close look at the door latch mechanism. there should be two u shaped claws that close around the door striker plate pin, sometimes these get closed before the door is closed causing the door not to close and stay closed. if they are closed(claws) pull the door handle to open the door and take something and push the claws out(open) then close the door.

Door will not close - latch on door seems to be flipped around so that it bounces off the corresponding piece on the frame rather than catching it to keep the door closed.

Easy fix - while pulling out on the door handle (like you are trying to open it), take your finger and flip the door latch around so it opens. The latch has rotated to the closed position. This can happen in unusual situations, but is easy to correct.

95 dodge caravan drivers door won't latch

often normal door latches will wear out causing the door latch to not activate the "full latch". The full latch ends up moving further up and into the latch. the solution is to replace the latch or have it rebuilt.

there is a spring inside the door lock that makes it work this spring is most likely broken try spraying lubricant on the lock just in case its binding ,but it seems like you will have to replace the lock mechanism

Door catch

With the door open hold the door handle up as if opening the door. The latch in the door mechanism will now be free so you need to rotate it to the open position. It might be a bit stiff but it will rotate with the handle pushed You might need a pair of pliers or small wrench to move it around.

Volvo door locked but open so wont shut

ok ,try this, first unlock the door with the poweer locks then get a screw driver, what u do is where the pin in the door jamb would hit the door latch on the door put the screw driver between the two claw like parts that move inward on the latch and pull the door handle like you normally would and then pull the screwdriver towards the car at the same time, the two claw like pieces should rotate away from eachother and the door should close now, hope this helps

Rear door won't stay shut

Check the latch mechanism on the door. There is a piece of the latch that closes around the clasp on the door frame. sometimes this closes when the door is open and you can't shut the door. Take a screw driver and flip this latch piece open and close the door.
