The diesel injection pump is responsible to deliver the diesel to the engine and to control the speed of the engine by matching the fuel output requirement of the engine. You can get Diesel Injection pump for all models especially for your Jeep Cherokee at http://www.dieselpartspros.com/diesel-injector-pump.asp

Before removal of the fuel injection pump, I am assuming that u checked to see which fuel line was for which cylinder on the fuel injection pump. Well if this was done, place ur #1 cylinder on compression and at the sametime spill time ur fuel injection pump so that #1 will be the next outlet to dis-charge fuel. After this is done, insert the fuel injectrion pump, and ur job is now complete. IF ur front cover is off, there are usually markings on the gear of the fuel injection pump in order for the markings to be alligned

Fuel pump relay should be under hood in main fuse block..Check the inside of cover for exact location there.

Was any work just done to this car? Timing belt? It is rare that these pumps go bad but I have seen a few shell out. If you are not familiar with the ALH diesel engine I would not try to replace it. You should take it to a shop that specializes in VW's.

Some engines use a knock sensor...If yours has one it likely isn't working...Also check that oil pressure is good. If not you have an internal engine problem.
