If its a 3.1 liter there is no alternate route for the serpentine belt. There should be a pulley assembly available that will bolt in place of the a/c compressor that is a little more affordable. If your interested I can see if I can get you a part number.

The other thing you can do is call around your local salvage yards and get a price on a used compressor. A couple of hours, a couple of o-rings, and a couple cans of R134 and your back in business.

2013 VW CC V6 (3.6) Serpentine Belt Routing

Here is the serpentine belt routing for a 2013 VW CC with a V6 3.6 liter engine:
  1. Start by locating the automatic belt tensioner on the front of the engine.
  2. Route the belt around the crankshaft pulley at the bottom of the engine.
  3. From there, route the belt around the idler pulley, which is just above the crankshaft pulley.
  4. Next, route the belt around the alternator pulley, which is located on the top left side of the engine.
  5. After the alternator, route the belt around the power steering pump pulley, which is located on the top right side of the engine.
  6. From there, route the belt around the water pump pulley, which is located just above the power steering pump.
  7. Finally, route the belt around the tensioner pulley, which should be the last pulley in the belt routing.
Double-check that the belt is properly seated on each pulley and that the routing matches the diagram on the engine or in the owner's manual before starting the engine.

How do I replace a serpentine belt bypassing the air conditioner ... I am not using the air conditioner pulley at all.

Odds are you can't. The ac compressor is mounted in the belt routing so it would need the pulley to keep the belt tight.
You can get a used compressor from a salvage yard and mount it in place of your old part if necessary. It will allow the belt to run even if it has no freon in the system.
There are a few vehicles that a replacement dummy pulley was designed for, but I am not aware of one for your vehicle. Usually if you try to run the belt without the compressor pulley, it will rub against something or not allow the belt to run in the right direction.

Replace alternator

The alternator belt on the 1999 Dodge Caravan also controls the air conditioner compressor, the water pump and the power steering pump. The belt is called a serpentine belt, and it is designed to fit around all of the accessory pulleys at the same time. As the belt travels around each accessory pulley, it enables the accessory to operate. Once the belt is damaged, cracked or frayed, you should change it before it breaks. If that happens, each of the accessories will stop working.

Open the hood and prop it up so that it does not fall. Engage the parking brake.

Inspect the top surface of the fan shroud for the serpentine belt routing diagram. Follow the routing instructions on the diagram to install the new belt.

Locate the serpentine belt self-adjusting tensioner on the front of the engine. The tensioner is directly below the alternator. Use the bolt that connects the tensioner pulley to the tensioner arm to rotate the tensioner.

Turn the tensioner device counterclockwise to move the tensioner. This will relieve the tension from the belt. Once the belt has enough slack in it, slide the belt out from under the tensioner pulley.

Lift the belt off each accessory pulley. Slide the belt around the fan blades and out of the engine area.

Lay the old belt next to the new belt to ensure that the new belt is the correct width and length. Slide the belt around the fan blades and around the crankshaft pulley on the bottom of the engine.

Follow the belt routing diagram to position the belt around the air conditioner compressor pulley, the power steering pump pulley, the water pump pulley and the idler pulley. Once the belt is routed inside each accessory pulley, inspect the belt to make sure that it is securely inside the pulleys.

Crank the 1999 Dodge Caravan for 10 to 15 seconds to completely seat the belt ribs in the grooves on each accessory pulley. Shut the engine off and close the hood.

If the belt routing diagram for the 1999 Dodge Caravan is missing, use a pen and a notepad to draw the exact routing of the old belt and use it when installing the new belt.

I had a thin belt break.what does it do? it is not the thick belt.

If your serpentine belt is what is broken (about 4 feet long), it is the belt that turns you alternator, water pump, power steering, and air conditioner. With out that belt in place your steering wheel will be hard to turn, your air conditioner will not work, your battery will not charger, and your car will over heat. In other words you will not be able to drive very far. Go to the auto store and purchase a new belt and put it on. There should be a diagram of the routing under the hood or in your owners manual. It is not hard to figure out how to route the belt , smooth pulleys get the smooth side of the belt and and grooved pulleys get the grooved side of the belt. You may have to put a pipe over you wrench to move the spring loaded pulley to get enough slack to slide the belt over the last pulley.

My serpentine belt went how do i change the belt do i need a special tool

Identify which belts need to be replaced. If you are replacing the air conditioner belt, you may need to remove the alternator belt because of the way the belts are shared on the crankshaft pulley. As a result, some mechanics recommend replacing both belts together.
  • Step 2 Loosen the lock bolt for the belt you are replacing using owner's documentation. The lock bolt will be near the belt tensioner component.
  • Step 3 Turn the adjustment bolt to change tension on the belt. When the belt is loose enough, slip it off.
  • Step 4 Use your memory or a belt routing diagram to install the new belt on all pulleys.
  • Step 5 Adjust the adjustment bolt to replace tension on the belt. Tighten the lock bolt.
  • Step 6 Make sure the belt is correctly seated on all pulleys and that the ribs fit into grooves on the pulleys.
  • Step 7 Run the engine and check for any flapping or looseness that could indicate incorrect installation.
  • This was copied from the service manual.

Need a timing belt diagram for ford ranger 3.2L engine

Do you mean timing belt or serpentine belt? The timing belt on vehicles only goes on one way - over 2 or 3 pulleys with a possible tensioner holding the proper tension on it.
The serpentine belt is the outer, visible belt that runs the water pump, alternator, power steering pump and air conditioner pulleys with another one or 2 pulleys in there just for fun. There should be a routing diagram for that belt on a decal attached to the underside of the hood - or on the radiator shroud. While it may seem to go on other ways it is crucial to install it correctly. Compare the old belt (if it is available) to the new one for proper length. The correct routing of the proper belt makes sure that all the equipment pulleys are rotating in the proper direction.
