The first thing you should check is the fuel pump. when turning the ignition to the on position, if the car is completely silent, you can hear the fuel pump click or make noise towards the back of the car. one thing i would suggest doing is turning the car on, but not trying to start it, that way the fuel pmp can beggin to pump fuel to the engine. if after a while you try to start it and no go, then keep turning it over. it might take a lot of turning over to start because the fuel lines alone have over a gallon on most cars, so it might be normal if it takes forever to start the first time. another way to check to see if the fuel pump is working is after trying to turn it over, and you remove the gas cap, you will hear the pressure being let out. if you hear this, that is good. if not, try cheking to see if t he fuel filter has gas in it. if it is still empty, than you have a bigger problem. you should also try spraying either gas of starter fluid into the carburator to make sure no other problems have occured. hope this helps, goodluck.

I ran I ran out of gas when I put gas in my car it still won't start I really don't know what's wrong with it

Sometimes the pump is damaged when the tank is run dry if it is in the gas tank. The pump uses gasoline for a lube and to keep it cool. Do you know if the pump is working ?

Ran my car outta gas put a lil under a gal in started acting up put gas in at gas station now its not running right at all

Year make and model ? You may have cooked the pump or picked up some junk from the bottom of the tank, if the fuel pump is in the tank.
Running on less than 1/4 tank is tough on an in-tank pump.

98 dodge ram 1500 Truck ran out of gas. It will start w/ starter fluid sprayed in filter but will not stay running.

Since the fuel pump is in the gas tank, your pump picked up debris, and dirt on the bottom of the tank and ran it into your fuel filter.
Replace fuel filter, and check fuel pump fuse.
Running your vehicle with less than a 1/4 tank of gas is hard on the pump, because the fuel pump uses gas to cool it.
Please let me know what you find.

Ran out of gas. Put gas into SUV but still will not start??

The fuel pump has most likely frozen up from overheating it, the pump (located in the fuel tank) is cooled by the gas it is submersed in, anytime the tank is run lower than 1/4 the pump gets hot from coming out of the gas in the tank, this shortens the life allot. You are going to have to replace the pump.

Acts like it can't get gas.

Your last sentence has me wondering, did u purchase gas for both vehicles at the same gas station? How far apart did u fill them up (same day, 2 days apart...) I am wondering if you got some bad gasoline. It would explain your problems and the coincidence of both vehicles giving u this type of problem. How about draining the gas out of the vehicle w/ the least in the tank, replace the fuel filter again add fresh gas from a different station. This is of course assuming your fuel pump is ok. When the gas is removed do u see any sediment? Any water would be at the bottom of the tank (gas floats on water) so u should check for water also. Let me know what u discover. good luck!! countrycurt0
