P0008 CADILLAC - Engine Positions System Performance Bank 1
The ECM detects that both camshafts on either bank of the engine are
mis-aligned with the crankshaft for more than 4 seconds or a cumulative
of 50 seconds.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the position of both camshafts
and the crankshaft. The ECM performs a test for misalignment between
both camshafts on one bank of the engine and the crankshaft. During the
test the ECM learns the position of the camshafts and the crankshaft.
While the engine is idling, the ECM compares the position of both the
camshafts and the crankshaft with the learned value. The ECM will set
the P0008 code if both learned values for one bank of the engine are
exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction.
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Possible causes
- Engine mechanical problems
- Incorrect timing chain
- Stretched timing chain
- Failed camshaft actuator or actuator solenoid
Tech notes
There is a factory service bulletin for the following Cadillac models:
2004-2008 Cadillac CTS SRX
2005-2008 Cadillac STS
The service bulletin suggest replacing the primary drive and both secondary drive timing chains. Contact your Cadillac dealer for more information. The repair could still be cover under factory warranty.
Hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).
P0008 Engine Position System Performance (Bank 1 The engine Control Module (ECM) tests for a misalignment between both camshafts on one bank of the engine & the crankshaft. The misalignment would be at an idler sprocket for either bank or at the crankshaft. Once the ECM learns the position of both camshafts on one bank of the engine, the ECM compares the learned values to a reference value. The ECM will set a DTC if both learned values for one bank of the engine are exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction. basically your timing chain needs to be checked
Ok for p0008 on a 2006 cadillac srx v6, i replaced bank 1(right side) 2 cam actuators and the2 cam sensors also put new syhthetic oil, then drove it, it actually fixed the caddy and passed the etest. The chain might be stretched buy its a lot cheaper to change the actuators. It worked for me. The owner said it has noticeable better power and burns less gas. These actuators is like a piston and cylinder and i can guess it wears after some time and mileage. So goodluck to all you caddy guys i hope this helps. And this can be done by a do it yourselfer.
