Battery went dead on 98 audi radio saying safe when in on position

I've seen a few postings about pressing buttons simultaneously, etc. but unfortuantely, those tips have worked on my '97 A4 1.8 turbo (unless you need to hold the buttons simultaneously for more than five minutes, which I've also tried). Based on another suggestion, I've also let the key sit in the ignition for an hour while 'SAFE' displays on the radio in an effort to reset it, but to no avail. My dealer is a thief and I'd rather not take it there. Any last bits of input? Thanks for your support!

You have to go to the dealership with title, registration, and photo ID. They can look up the unlock code based on the VIN of the car, and they can also charge you up to an hour's labor for it. Make sure they give it to you on a card, and don't just have a technician enter it, or you'll be stuck next time power is interrupted.

My Audi A4 2.8 battery went dead, and my radio went on safe mode. Do anyone knows the code to turn it back on ?

You need to contact Audi Dealer and provide your VIN# (It's an anti-theft deterrent issue) TIP: when you get the code, write it down in your glovebox w/a Sharpie (just in case)

My battery went dead and now the radio in my audi a4 is in safe mode. I need the code and way to enter it please!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must have the security anti-theft code for your Audi radio from the car manufacturer, or from an Audi dealer!

Also you can find the radio code at: http://www.radio-code.co.uk/

The sequence of programming for Audi radio is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.

For example: we have the security code "5079". Then:
3. By the no.# 1 key you will set up the first safe code digit. Push 5 times on the no.# 1 button. The "5" number will be setted.
4. By the no.# 2 key you will set up the second safe code digit. Push 10 times on the no.# 2 button. The "0" number will be setted.
5. By the no.# 3 key you will set up the third safe code digit. Push 7 times on the no.# 3 button. The "7" number will be setted.
6. By the no.# 4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit. Push 9 times on the no.# 4 button. The "9" number will be setted.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

Please do rate my response. Thanks!

Jumped started Audi 2001 TT, due to dead battery, now radio dead

You will need to enter the anti theft radio lock code. I would check the manual for the operation. On my VW it was on a sticker in the truck. Also check with an Audi dealer for exact location.

My radio on my audi tt does not work at all, i have been in Australia for 6 weeks and when i came back the battery was dead. I have read about the safe mode but the screen is just blank. Any Ideas?

Get a new radio. You probably have a short. Plus the Audis built in alarm sucks some pretty serious juice so that could be what killed the battery. Hard to say without having some diagnostics run.

Radio in "safe" mode

:-)

Sure, I understand.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer, and my question was, is the radio the original for this car, or was it installed later as a swap or replacement?

On my VW, safe will come up initially, then 1000, then a short time later, it will resume normal operation, after you turn it on the first time.

Do you have the original Owner Manual for the car? If so, the code number and how to enter the code is usually left in there (unless the original owner took it out.). There is a way to get a new code, but let's not go there just yet (after all "you just a girl" ). :~)
