Clutch or transmission problems

My 89 vw cabriolet doesn't want to go. I think it may be the clutch or transmission messing up or has already messed up. Is there a place to put gear oil or something or would that even help. I cranks up fine but does move at al when I put it in gear.

Check out your gear linkage and gearbox mounting. If that is fine then It could be the clutch. Sorry for the bad news.

My 89 vw cabriolet automatic wont go into gear after towing it replacing filters and shifter cable

My first thought is bent shifter forks or linkage is off. Start with the linkage as it is easier. Shifter forks are internal tranny components.

Transmission install 89 ford ranger

You should be able to rent a spline alignment tool from the parts house where you got transmission. I'm assuming you have a manual transmission so the clutch pad doesn't want to cooperate? I think even with an automatic it's much the same.

On a '89 VW cabriolet, where is the gas filter?

It is next to the battery on mine. 3" round and 5" long silver canister. A wire braided hose on each end with a screw thru it to attach it to each end.

I have an 89 vw cabriolete. The problem I'm having is when the car drops rpms (like at a light or stop sign) it will shut off. It will start right back up and go only if i can continue driving at that...

I'm far from an expert but I am also the owner of an '89 Cabriolet that had a similar problem. My Mech played with the oxygen sensor setting and then we ran a bottle of STP Injector Cleaner + full tank of Shell Gas through it and now the RPM's don't drop when downshifting or stopped at a light.

perhaps that could work for you as well?

I have a 1992 VW Cabriolet about 3 000 rpm it

The vibration at that high rpm is most likely coming from the torque convertor and if a manual transmission , then clutch issues.
