I have a 1999 Ford Escort. I lost the key. I got it started, but steering wheel is locked. How can I unlock it?

Hi Connie:
The steering wheel lock is an integral part of the vehicle anti-theft security. The proper key for the ignition is the correct procedure.
Any responsible FIXYA person will NOT tell you how to disable it as it would publicly inform dishonest persons as to how to be able to more easily steal vehicles.
My suggestion for you would be to contact a dealer for your make and model, and get a replacement key. You will be required to provide proof of ownership.
Cheers

Doors automatically lock

I swear, there is no end to security system issues. Causes far more problems for owners than thieves it's supposed to protect from. Oh, for the good old days...
You'll have to have it diagnosed by a knowledgeable tech. Likely a simple fix, but the key word is (somebody who knows the system).
I hope you get a better response here. good luck.

1999 Toyota Camry door lock and unlock issues

I believe this was done as a safety feature. It stops a potential car hyjacker from sneaking in the passenger door when you open the driver door. I know recent Hyundai models are set up such that if you turn the key in the driver's door once it only unlocks the driver's door. If you turn it twice in quick succession it unlocks all of the doors. Maybe the Camry is set up the same way.

1999 Ford Explorer Door Locks

Unfortunately, This is a very common problem with Ford Explorers! Ford replaces the locks when it encounters this issue. I managed to unseize my passanger door and tailgate lock, but the drivers door lock is broken beyond repair. You can purchase new remotes for your explorer and program them very easily. Just google ford key fobs...

depending on how the car is set, the unlock may have to be depressed twice to unlock the passenger door. i'm guessing you have already tried this? if not give it a shot.

if that didn't fix it, then sit in the car and hit the unlock button twice and see if you hear the passenger door unlock/lock mechanism trying to unlock the door. if you can hear it trying to pop the lock, then it may be an issue with the cold. my '99 323 was this way in the cold. if you can't hear it trying to pop the lock, then the module in that door is bad.

also when was the last time BMW replaced the battery in that key?

good luck.
