Hi,

Your post removing and re-installing will work is significant in itself. It indicates a loose or corroded connection most probably in the terminals of the bulb socket. Next time you remove the bulb, pls pay likewise check/clean the terminals inside the bulb housing/socket, they may need a bit of scraping cleaning. In some instances, it could be the socket itself, perhaps the grounding/body. Cleaning and spraying with WD40 should help out. You can also try pushing in the socket terminal to play/exercise the spring at the back of the terminal base.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Could be a high resistance problem at brake sensor, like poor contact, make sure it is clean and tie, and free of moisture

When light switch is off only 3rd brake light work, when switch is on the back lights are stuck on 3rd light works normal what could be the problem?

Are the brake lights stuck on or are you just seeing the parking lights on without the brake lights lighting up? Sounds like you have no rear brake lights, check your emergency light switch. Sometimes it may not switch completely, turn it on and off a few time and then recheck it.

1. my 96 ford windstar's tail lights dont work, but the bulbs are ok. 2 I want to change my rear brake shoes; are there any special tools I need?

If tail lights don't work, check your dimmer switch for any shorts. If the brake lights don't work, then check the brake switch behind the brake pedal. You can test them with a multitester.
For brake shoes you need socket or star wrench, and needle nose pliers for the springs unless you have a spring too. If you have disc brakes, then socket set and a c-clamp to push the pistons back in.

Brake lights and cruise control are not working. Checked fuses and lamps all are ok.

sounds like a faulty brake light switch located down by the brake pedal

1997 GMC Sierra p/u. Brake light & blinker out. Taillights ok.

I have notice that this is a common problem. The socket most of the time goes bad, I don't know why but they just do. You can pick them up at any parts store for around 5.00 each. If you don't have a volt meter and ground straps to test it right, then I would try changing the sockets out. Quick and easy. Let us know how it goes.

No Brake Lights, unable to switch from park to drive

It is not the multifunction switch. The power feed goes thru the brake switch before the multi function. You have no power the the brake switch because your shift interlock is not allowing you to shift it. I'll look up the wiring diagram and repost with a solution.
