This is a very common problem with the key cards. Have a look at the Renault forums website and you will see. There are some fixes that you can do for free, but worse case scenario is a new card and they are expensive. Renault Forums Independent Renault forum Powered by vBulletin
I only saw question now. I've been through the same with my Renault Megane Hatch 2004. 1 card key unlocked but could not start the car; spare key said card not recognised. Renault said I needed new key cards as they don't last forever & they will need to be replaced from time to time. Ordered new key. They said would take 3 weeks to arrive but came in 2. Then needed to be encoded. Was very expensive
Hi
You should normally have two key cards, a simple test is necessary to come to the proper conclusion.
First of all insert one of the two key cards into the card reader examined what is written on the instrument panel if the message is card not detected
try the second key card, and if the second key card is, Detected then you have a problem with the first Key card.
With this small test you should come to the conclusion if there is a problem with the key card or the card reader.
This should answer your question, I hope I have been helpful.
Unfortunately the battery is only for the central locking and has nothing to do with your immobiliser, when you place the card into the card reader I presume you get a message saying card not detected for a renault megane or scenic, card is most likely faulty and will need replacing, sometimes if you're lucky you may get the cart to be detected by slightly tapping the card on the floor.
Unfortunately your card is faulty if you have a second card it should work if not then you will have to order a new one and have it reprogrammed to your car, all cards must be present when this procedure is needed, a change of code in the immobiliser renders all old cards unprogrammed useless.
