Fords in general have numerous complaints of underhood fires, here is a link of hundreds of reports-if you scroll down to Taurus, you might see a similar type of fire and it will give you a place to start when you contact the dealer-since it is a 20 year old car, chances are they will do nothing about it, but if you can find that a recall was done and you were not contacted about it, you might get some relief.
