Along with above, you could also have a bad coil pack firing off too.

After having no spark in my 1994 probe gt,I replaced distributor and now runs for 5 sec. and shuts off.Car has been sitting for 7 months ,I was woundering if it was a gas issue?

Very possible.
You could try spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body to see if it will stay running on that instead of the fuel in the tank.
You might also want to check the fuel pump circuit with a meter to see if it looses power.

How do you replace a distributor assembly on a 1995 Ford Probe GT

There is one bolt and clamp at the bottom of the distributor shaft.
You MUST make a mark on the shaft AND the engine so that when you put another one in, you can line it up correctly.
Otherwise, your spark timing will be off & may not run.
When removing you may have to twist the assembly as you remove it (that's normal).
Oh,, yeah... don't remove the spark plug wires at the distributor .. until you really have to... mark them well (masking tape or whatever technique you use).

94 ford probe gt engine cuts out while driving,

The part that typically fails in the distributor of the 1993 and 1994Probe GTs is called the ignitor. The ignitors fail due to the highheat found in the cramped PGT engine compartment. Many rebuiltdistributors fail because they are rebuilt from distributors that haveignitors that have failed under high temperture conditions. Therebuilders bench test the rebuilt units at room temperature and theytest o.k. Then when the disty goes back into a hot engine compartment they quickly fail again. I've heard of people going through several rebuilt distys in PGTs within a few months. Avoid rebuilt units unless your hobby is installing distys on a weekly basis.

The best place to buy a new disty is eBay. There are a number of sellers that offer new distys for PGTs with upgraded ignitors that can withstand the heat. Don't go to a Ford dealer, they will charge you a fortune.

Another option is to jury rig a replacement ignitor with an inexpensive HEI module available for less than $20 at most auto part stores. This approach is complex and not for the faint of heart. You can read about that here.

BTW, a 1993 or 1994 Probe GT that experiences stalling along with the tach either dropping like a stone to zero while the car is still moving or the tach bouncing wildly is considered highly diagnostic of disty failure.

1995 Ford Probe sputtering, dying. Won't start now.

This to me sounds like it could be the fuel pump but first I would check the simpler solution and make sure your alternator is good because if your started turns over fine but the car wont start the next part to check would be for me the alternator.

Ford probe won't start

distributor is placed wrong for timing
take cap off unbolt distributor lift enough to turn rotor place back dont bolt litely just enough to hold distributor down without it poping up on you
place cap back on
now you need manual start and kill switch up in engine compartment turn vehicle over with manual starter switch if runs rough turn distributor till sounds good now time it with radar gun tighten bolts the rest of the way

now for what i described this has a margin of error going 1 to 3 notches to time in either direction from front to back or back to front turning of the distributor rotar
i hope i had made some sense heree695f1c.jpg
or counter clockwise the lifting distributor and turning rotor one tooth to engine crank this is timeing
