Re: I have a check engine light on
Code p2404 is from a none volvo tester it would convert over to volvo code ecm 432a ,leak diag. pump failure, now dont play with it driving should be ok but you should take it to the dealer or a volvo only shop and read codes and fix it when your ready

The smog check requires a visual inspection of your check engine light. It has to come on for a bulb check at startup to make sure it's working. But, the light must go out after starting the engine(it cannot stay on after the engine starts during a smog check). If the check engine light fails either of these two tests, the vehicle will fail the smog check inspection. You need to have the cause of your inoperative check engine light diagnosed and repaired.
you need a technician with a diagnostic tool.. The thing about these cars is every time you do something you need to reset the counter on the cars computer.. This can only be done with a diagnostic tool
The OBDII on this model could take up to 2 months to reset. If you are in CA and need to get a smog cert. the state will bypass the OBD check out portion of the inspection. Volvo has a special test drive to reset the system, but nobody that I know has had any success without a road dyno and several hours.
replace the pvc valve and have the egr valve replace.make sure the vacuum hoses connect to egr valve and pvc replace.change air filter.all those things will cause high emission if not working properly.cause you to fail smog test.
