- to check fuel pump/relay- with drivers door open - radio off - insert key and turn from OFF to RUN-not start- should hear a hum from under car back towards tank- relay is under hood in second fuse/relay panel
? did you hit a bump just before car shut off? - if so look in manual for location of EMERGENY FUEL CUTOFF- usually in trunk area- large red push button- can trip sometimes with a hard enough jolt

You need to ck for spark . Pull one spark plug wire off at the spark plug end . insert a new spark plug into the wire and set the spark plug on the valve cover watch the new plug while some one try's to start the engine and see if their is spark if their is you have a fuel deliverery problem or a possible timing problem ,the alternator should not make it not start.

possibly a failed fuel pump. First check the fusible link #4 in the engine compartment relay box. Next, can you hear the fuel pump it come on briefly when you turn the key on? If not, see if you can hear the relay click when you turn the key on. If the relay clicks but the pump doesn't prime, it is likely the pump has packed up. If the pump is good, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines for other ideas. These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

02 camaro wont start fuel pump relay or fuel pump ? How to tell ? The car started right up then died & wont start ! I dont hear the noise from fuel pump when I turn key !!

Take the fuel line off before the filter and turn the key on and see if you get any fuel out of the line. If you don't get any fuel unplug the wire connector to the fuel pump turn the key on and see if you get a hot wire going to the pump. if you get a hot wire then it is your pump. If you do not get any hot wire then it should be the relay.

Starting problems

many times when a fuel pump starts to fail it fails intermittenly and then it just wont work at all. so it may be your fuel pump. because it still cranks strong then it's not the battery. it may also be loose wireing to and from your distributer. that could explain why it works intermittently. when the wire barely connect it works and as you drive they my loose contact. make sure all the connections to and from the distributer are not loose. you may need to change those cables as well.
