Question about Honda CR-V

My 2003 are good honda crv has a loud howeling in the rear end.Brakes are good including emerg brake.

Sound like the back axle, maybe diff?
Change the rear diff oil and noise will cease. ( known issue)

Rear brakes squeal when car is braking in reverse


I believe you have drum brakes on the back. Not sure. If so, it probably is the automatic adjuster is frozen. This comes into play when you go backwards and apply the brakes. It is used so that the emergency brake is in proper alignment, that is, it only takes a few clicks before the emergency brakes start being applied. If there were no adjuster, as the brakes go old, you would lose the emergency brakes entirely.

For the Honda CRV 2004, the driver's side automatic window does not go up or down but all other ones do. Please advise.


Your emergency brake is a mechanical brake system that is indipendant of the regular hydrolic system. If the red brake light on the dash is on make sure it's the emerg. brake and not a problem with the fluid level or the calapers sticking. the best way to check the emerg. brake is to rase both rear wheels off the ground and spin them. If they spin, the emerg. brake is not locked up. If they don't spin, take the rear tires off and the brake drums. (you may have rear disk brakes.) check the springs to insure they are all hooked up properly. If there is no problem there, follow the parking brake cable to check for damage. The cable is like a brake cable on a bike, If the inner cable is binding inside the cable sleeve,the brake wont release. If you have rear disc, it's probly a bad calaper.The park brake cable is attached to the calapers. Rember if it wont run it's annoying but if it won't stop, it's deadly. DON"T experiment with brakes!!! If in doubt, take it to a pro.

My honda crv has rattles when driving. Since Oct./10 I have put struts, strut mounts, brakes, rotors on rear, stablizer link kits on rear and front,still havent fixed it. also have a vibration on front...


If it's an AWD model, check the rear differential to body mount bushings on top of the rear diff. And get your tires rotated and balanced.

Hi my name is Tom and I can help you.

Driving with your emergency brake on is only going to affect your rear brakes. There is a cable running from the emergency brake lever to your rear brakes.

You did not say how long you drove with the emergency brake on, but even a short distance and you forced the front brakes to do the work of stopping the car. This causes overuse which translates to heat. When the brakes over heat they "fade" and do not stop the car effectively.

In addition the heavy load of doing all the stopping causes the brakes not to realign. Therefore, when you go around corners the brakes pads will rub against the rotors.

I would suggest you get the brakes looked at or look at them yourself. I can help you do the job but I would need to talk to you directly. Let me know what I can do to help.

My rear differential siezed up after I applied the brakes. The rear end hopped, jumped, and swerved violently. I took the rear cover off and no fluid was present. I am wondering how to unsieze a siezed up...


Are you certain that it 's the rear end, and not the brakes?

Did you set the emergency brake by accident?

I am not aware of any way that a rear differential will seize by the application of the brakes.

It sounds like there is a problem with the current calipers, it would be cheaper to try replacing the current ones with a new one NOT FROM HONDA. buy an aftermarket caliper and try that. Dealerships will try to screw you over and take money from you when its not necessary.

2003 silverado HD adjust emergency brake cable?


first you need to check the rear brakes ,the emergency brakes work off the rear brakes, there is an adjustment on the center of cable that goes between both rear brakes,hope this is some help,thanks robert b.

How do you adjust a 2003 honda crv hand brake i have replaced the back pads but the hand brake has too much travell and it appears the hand brake does not have a cable going to the back brakes so how does...


It should have e-brake cables going to the rear,and to adjust the handle there is an adjuster on the bottom of the handle under the console it will take a four way screw driver and a 12mm wrench to fix your problem hope this helps you!
