I have a 1996 mazda 626 and the hold light is flashing, now the car jerks really hard and sound likes something is breaking. I went to pepboys and they said it was the hold light on the gear shift, I pressed the button that stated hold and it still is flashing. Plus they told me it would cost me $80 for a diagnostic test. Where can I go and get it done for free, because I can't afford a diagonstic test at this time.

Hi...
when the HOLD light come on or keep Flashing.
Is mean you have a Transmission problem.
But the Light Mean a Diagnostic CODE.
If you get The vehicle SCANNED you will HAVE the code Number and Specifiction for that code.
with the CODE number I can help you on the Right step to FIX.
because I'm A mechanic and have PC Based Autorepair Software. That give me all the info That I need.

If you DON'T want to pay for Computer Diagnostic.
take the Vehicle to any , Autozone, advance, Napa, And some Pepboy's Autopart, They Will scan you car With no charging for that service. Is just A free service thay give.

Thank you I hope this help On your problem.

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

I would read the codes to find out specifically whats up with the transmission. If its the torque converter solenoid as your describing, then this is not a big repair. But if the convertor clutch is not aligned with its shafts ...thats costly.

I have a 2004 Impala that transmission jerks into gears periodically when doing a bit of stopping and starting off. Have talked to other Impala owners, and some have had tranny problems also. It just...

This is common problems to the transmission when the fluid is getting to dirty and the transmission fluid and filter needs to be replaced. The transmission fluid and filter should be replaced every 45,000 miles to ensure there is no dirt causing the shift servos from binding. The other thing to is that when the transmission fluid get's to dirty, the fluid gets thicker. It retains fluid retention which can cause conflicts in the transmission sensors. What your experiencing is, your transmission is not shifting back to first gear and sticking in to 2nd gear. When you get on the gas peddle, the transmission sensors realize that it needs to be in 1st gear, so as the engine's RPM goes up and the transmission drops back to 1st, you get the jerking condition which will in turn cause you a $2,300.00 transmission replacement. For now when starting off from a stop, let the engine creep forward on it's own first to ensure that the transmission has shifted in to 1st gear. Then get on the gas peddle lightly till you have the transmission serviced. $100.00 transmission service is better then $2,300.00 transmission replacement. Good luck and do not have a transmission fluid flush, just filter and fluid replacement.

My 2002 Hyundai Accent goes into 1 gear smoothly, jerks into 2nd and goes into 3rd gear smoothly. Then goes back down into 3rd and 2nd gears smoothly and jerks back into 1st.

CHECK ENGINE light??? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Trans

I had a similar problem with my 1997 F250 only with 1st & 2nd gear. At the same time the ABS light was on and the speedometer was acting eratic. In my case it was a bad speed sensor on the rear differential. About $30.00 and took me less than 15 minutes to fix.

I'm assuming you have already looked at the trans for any loose or worn electrical or vacuum lines and connections.
