Question about 2004 Land Rover Range Rover

1 Answer

2004 Range Rover HSE won't start. Last week i had problem starting the rover. I checked the starter and the relay and was hoping that it could be one or the other. But this week i noticed that the transmission shifter lights that are in the speedometer tend to come and go. It would show parking sometimes and then it wouldn't show anything and the rover wouldn't start. When the light all show in the speedometer it starts. i played with the shifter and sometimes the parking "P" light would comeback and when i try to started i would hear a click from the starter. Also want to add that when the lights are gone "P R N D" you can't even hear the starter click.I also realized that when you turn the key to start position you could move the shifter out from the parking without even applying to the brake pedal. I started the starter with just a wire strait from the battery it starts, so i know it's not the starter for sure. After play with the shifter for a while all the shifter lights went away and the rover wouldn't start. I think it has something to do with transmission because when i started the car with the wire it shifted very rough. Can anyone help me with this weird problem? Last chance before i take it to the dealer which i know it's going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Sounds more like a low voltage current flow in the ground circuit(harness).
Or the voltage output from ignition switch.
If No check engine light ever came on, or is not on, then the PCM/ECM is telling us there is No fault anywhere,
TCM-automatic transmission computer- uses VSS- vehicle speed sensor, to know when to shift gears.
A low input power to any of these control modules would result in lack of performance
Rough shifting could be caused by low fluid level

1. Check all fuses
2. ensure the battery cables are tight.
3. Check negative from battery has ground to frame rail
4. Check Transmission Fluid Level.

If you notice other symtoms, or situation continues, please post back

SOURCE: ABS LIGHT ON, SHIFT LOCKED, NO BRAKE LIGHT.

If your brake lights don't work Its because you blew the fuse  which Is located In the main fuse panel under steering wheel.  Without break lights your rover will fire up nice but wont shift out of park until you replace the fuse.  If your ABS Is acting up It Is also an easy fix.  Disconnect the ABS from each wheel.  You still got all wheel disc breaks that work great but no ABS.  Your other option is  thousands of $$.  If your breaks are weak check your master cylinder and make sure you got enough fluid and that you are not loosing the fluid.  If you notice you are leaking brake fluid because you have to keep filling it up but cannot find a leak anywhere.  I bet I know where It is.  Check your rear break lines and make sure one of them didn't get caught in your rear springs and pinched ever so slightly when you were doing dounuts In the snow.
Good luck,

I cannot get into my Range Rover HSE as the battery is out of power

You might be able to get under the car and connect jumper cables to the starter to charge the battery. Anything bigger than 12 gauge wire would do it.
