Question about 1994 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

My 1994 toyota Corolla will not switch out of park to reverse or drive and the brake lights won't come on no matter how hard I press on the brakes. I have changed the brake light switch and even checked the fuses and it still won't change gears. If any one can help me with this I would be very grateful.

There is a small plasic acess cover (1/2" x1/2") on the base of the shifter. Pry it open and press the button. You should immediately be able to shift. The button is needed because the sensor on your brake pedal is broken (won't activate your brake lights either). Use the button on your shifter to get your car home or to the mechanic so you can get the brake switch fixed. Remember whern you drive you have no brake lights. -Mark

Car only starts in reverse and only drives in neutral

Sounds like a cable to the transmission is not adjusted up right, and/or the neutral safety switch is not adjusted right, if this applies to your Toyota Corolla.

1994 brake lights won't go out even with car off could it be the brake light switch and how do i install one also check engine light comes on off and on

The switch could be bad, but there is an adjustment for it. The switch is half way up the brake pedal arm. It could have fallen off. As far as the engine light , you need to have the codes read. As long as the light goes off you are OK. If it is flashing when it comes on then you really need to check the codes. Let me know.

1994 toyota corolla brake lights won't turn off

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You need to check the brake switch. Your brake pedal contacts the brake switch when it is pressed down. There is a small button on the brake switch that activates the lights. It may be stuck or broke. Try to loosen the button first. If it won't, buy another one. They only cost a few dollars.

I have a toyota corolla dx 1994 1.6 engine, my automatic shifter is stuck in park and will not move everything else on my car seems to be working properly. What's the reason this might be going on and...

On the 1994 Toyota Corolla, there is an override switch, which is located above the gear shift under a plastic tab. ( You need something like a key or screwdriver to depress it), It will get you out of park and allow you to drive. I'm guessing however that the "brake light service switch" is the problem and needs to be fixed, so having got it moving, I would suggest you drive it to your dealer to get it examined

My toyota corolla 1994 dx is stuck in park but everything eles is working properly

The brake switch on brake pedal is most likely bad. It tells the transmission that the brake is applied allowing it to come out of park.

1994 Corolla shift lever stuck in park and no brake lights

The brake switch on brake pedal is bad. Tells transmission brake is depressed so it will come out of park. Also controls brake lights. It's a plunger type switch that just has a little pin that when extended completes a circuit and allows brake lights to come on. Shouldn't be hard to replace just might be aggravating to get to.
