Question about 1998 Buick Park Avenue
THis handle appears to ahve broken. When pulling up there is no resistance. I've removed inner door door panel but am not able to see what has broken or come off. I need a diagram of the mechanics of the handle so I can see how it's supposed to work so I can try to figure out what's wrong. Any idea where I can view one of these diagrams or maybe tell me what's wrong?
The solution to this problem is inexpensive and can be performed by anyone with enough knowledge to do an oil change. The handle consists of a little plastic hook ( positioned inside, cannot be seen by just removing door panel) that pushes down the cable to open the door from the outside. Since it is plastic, it is very common for it to break off. You can glue the piece back together but it wont last long; it is better to replace the handle itself. You can find the part on eBay for around $30- $40 and install it yourself. It comes in a primer black color, unless you dont mind leaving it black, having it painted to match your color will not be economical. Just make sure you do it when you have time to be patient; access to the door handle screws is limited and you need an extension for the socket....Luck!

Three of the four door handles have borke on my ultra. and i can't find the door handles anywhere in cleveland. you would think of the price i paid for a brand new car the door handles would be made of metal

I cut a hole about 2"x 4" on the side of door where the nuts are located to make it easier to get off and on.Just cut on 3 sides and bend down metaland then bend back up to close opening. the back door handle will fit on the front door, only diff. is no keyhole.

My handle broke too. The plastic part of the handle just broke. I ordered a new one for like $75 dollars and had it painted. Sho around on the price at different dealers. Take the inner door panel off and there are two nuts that you can barely get to when you get your hands right to get in there and take it off. Make sure when putting it back on that you already hook up the handle from outside and feed it into door before bolting it up. Its the only way it will go back.

I have the exact same problem with my park avenue. I took it to a mechanice and they told me it would be $400 to fix because I need a whole new handle and then painted to match. Any ideas on where I can get this part cheaper?
