It is pretty simple. There are either screws or clips (I'm not sure which, as the manual doesn't say) holding one end of the air cleaner cap assembly. Just un-fasten the screws or clips and lift the cap assembly up and out of the hooks on the other end. The air tube to the intake manifold will still be connected and my make this a little difficult to do. If so, loosen the clamps on the air tube to make it easier. After replacing the filter element, make sure the cap assembly is fitted and secured properly and all clamps are tight. (See picture)

On the top of the engine, there should be a BIG black hose (usually 2 or 3 inches wide) that comes out of a big black box (a little bigger than the air filter). This box holds your air filter, and directs the air into your engine. Usually, there are 4 clips on the air-filter housing box -- you should be able to push off the clips with your thumb (if not, use a screwdriver to push them open). Once you have opened up the clips, the box should be able to open ... open it up and take out the old air filter. Make sure that nothing falls off of the old air filter into the bottom of the box (as this will get sucked into your engine and cause you problems later) and then put the new filter in, the same way the old one was in there. Close the box, fasten the clips, and you should be good to go.
If for some reason your air filter is not right on the top of the engine, you should be able to find it near one of the wheel wells (sometimes the car manufacturers put them to the side of the engine to help reduce the heat of the air going into the engine) but in my experience, Toyota usually puts the air filter on the top right of the engine to make for easy replacement.

I assume you mean the cabin air filter. The engine air filter is easy, assuming you've changed one on any other car before (hint: it's a box with some clips on the right side). The cabin air filter is a bit more involved, see below.

Just had my oil changed in my 2001 highlander and the check engine light came on for code 1130 and 1133 which I was told is the bank one sensor one. Could it have anything to do with the oil change? If...

We have a 2003 highlander, and every time they check the air filter(done during oil change), they disconnect a vacuum hose located on the bottom of the air filter housing. This causes the check engine light to come on. It takes a flashlight and a skinny wrist to reconnect the hose. tell them not to check the air filter anymore. Mostly a walmart screwup.

You should have had the transmission fluid changed at 30, 000 miles, and you should have the transmission flushed at 60,000.
Change the timing belt at 90, 000 miles (if you have a V-6).
Change the air filter every 15,000 miles.
Check the spark plug condition at 60,000, and change the coolant at 60,000.
