Could very well do as it sounds like their is a possible power loss somewhere ,it might not be but their is a possibility like a fuse or power supply cable has become trapped and broke .

07 Convertible

This is easy, first locate the top button on the center console but do not push yet, next the lever on the front off the top, reach your right hand up and grab lever and pull down and twist counter clock wise to unlock it, you may feel roof pop up a little then with roof unlocked push handle back into its slot, next is push button and hold, the roof will start to open and the trunk will start to open and the roof will store away i the trunk,, make sure trunk is empty at first use, then with the top down and trunk closed you are done, open the trunk just to look inside to see where the top goes, this is to make sure nothing gets in the way of the roof, i cant remember if area is blocked off or not but this is a good idea just so you know.
To close the roof you hit and hold the button and roof will come out of the trunk area automaticlly the roof will end up closed all you do is pull lever down then pull on lever to close roof all the way untwist lever and it will go into lock, you will feel this, once it is in the lock groove you will twist lever to the right to lock it, with it locked you then push lever back into its slot. good day

I pushed the trunk release button without realizing the trunk hadn't shut yet while I was closing the convertible top. Now the "closing" light is still on and the car hasn't completed...

If you can open the trunk with the key, do so. Then disconnect the battery ground cable for about 15 seconds, and reconnect it. Maybe that will clear the ECM and allow the roof to close and reset the light. Then close the trunk.
Good luck...

Convertible top will not retrack

Hi Stan

First of all the roof is not even soppose to operate while the trunk is open - So there is the first problem Ive been involved with BMW's for a long time and this is the first Ive heard of a roof opening while the trunk is open. There is a built in feature that tells the car not to open the roof if the trunk is open and the other way roung while the roog lid is open the trunk cant open.

The reason the roof is not working anymore as soon as there is stress on the roof the electric motors(One operates the roof and the other operates the roof lid)  disengages, You said that the roof still worked but the lid did not so probably only the one motor disengaged. So what you have to do is open the trunk on the left hand side right behind the tail light pull away the material and simply just push the electric motor into place. that should fix your problem.

It may happen that the two motors have become out of sync, Disengage both electric motors manualy put the roof away engage the motors and that should put the roof and lid back into sync.

Top wont let back or close

Inside your trunk on the left hand side there are two electric motors one drives the rooof lid and the other drives the roof, they can be engaged and disengaged independantly by small steel levers(THESE ARE LOCATED UNDER THE MATERIAL). once disengaged check if they work by standing and checking them while someone presses the roof button for you.

If they work and everything is fine you need to engage and disengage until they are in sync, When the roof lid is open you will also notice a small button under the roof lid catches this button allows the back part of the roof to drop and to tell the car that the roof lid is closed and it is now safe to let opne the trunk.

1997 BMW 328i convertible

The problem is that your roof(SOFT TOP) lid isnt closing properly. If you open the roof lid you see there is a button on one of the latches that tells the car that the roof is securely closed if your roof lid is not secure the trunk wont open. To test this press down on the roof lid and the try to open the trunk.
