Question about 1998 GMC Sierra

Open Question

1998 gmc sierra windshield wipers don't always work in the rain. They seem to always work when it's not raining but only about 25% of the time when it is raining. I realize they had an issue (recall) with the circuit board on the motors on those models but on this truck I can hear the motor whine when I turn them on so I'm not sure if it is the motor. I believe it is but would like to know if anyone has experienced this before I buy a new motor.

I have a 1998 Chevy Suburban.whenever it rains the driver side floorboard becomes wet. door seals are good. where could the leak be coming from?

Possibly from the windshield. Is there any rust around the windshield area? Check for debris in water drain outlets under the wiper arm cowling.

Wiper fluid keeps freezing drained all old wiper fluid and put in rain x -25 and it still froze

Rain X should have alleviated the freezing problem assuming that you circulated enough of it through the tubing and through the nozzles before it froze again.

Maybe try to disassemble the nozzle and soak in the Rain X solution or warm water to unfreeze it.

Trace the piping or tubing to the place where the frozen water exists and eliminate the ice by warming it up.

You may take the whole vehicle to a heated garage and let it thaw out, then circulate the fluid by pushing the button or switch to operate the windshield wiper fluid pump.

1990 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup. Windshield wipers, Cruise Control

May want to look at replacing the wiper circuit board. It is located on the firewall adjacent to the wiper motor and has a some what square black cover with 3 torx screws and wireing harness pluged into the side.We had a truck that every time you washed it the wipers would stay on until it dryed out.You can try removing it and spaying it down with contact cleaner just watch the brease on the two contact tips.Well hope this helps.

2004 Jeep rain sensing wipers continue to run regardless of setting or amount of rain

a couple of thoughts:
Has your windshield just been replaced?
The sensor is up by the rear view mirror, is it plugged in all the way?
Do you have the right size wiper blades on your vehicle? (too short of a blade misses the rain sensor and does not wipe it clean)
How good are your blades? ( as above, to turn off the rain sensor the blade needs to wipe it clean)
The rain sensor works by projecting multiple inferred beams to the inside of the windshield, like a prism, they reflect back to collectors. when there is a water droplet on the outside of the windshield it changes a beams trajectory and it misses the collector thust turning on the wipers.
(yes, this all happens in that little sensor up by the rear view mirror.)
check to make sure the wiper switch is in the right position.
also....I've seen rain sensors not work properly when the hood or doors are open.
hope this helps

Wiper blades work when it not raining...when it rains they dont work or work ocassionally

if its the same as i remember the electronic control on the wiper motor allows moisture to leak in, on a dry day remove the cover held on with three screws, let it sit for a bit then reinstall the cover with a small bead of sealant on the edge
