New switch for the passenger side. The drivers side switch may be wired through the passengers side switch witch will make it not work if the passengers side switch is bad. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
Need to get a wiring diagram. Buy a book and follow the wiring schematic. It should help you out majorly. Can't really work on electrical issues without one.
It sounds like everything else and the wiring is okay, only that button on the driver's switch is not working. I would try a new switch, if you see nothing wrong with the electrical plug for it when you take it off. If that down wire was broken somewhere from the driver switch to the passenger door, I don't think the driver's switch would work for it either way, up or down. And same, neither would the passenger switch work. I think the button for down is not making contact somehow, and right in the switch.
The problem may be in the wiring which if you pull up the carpet on the front passenger side by
removing the door floor trim and lifting the carpet you will see the
wiring underneath. Probably laying in water or has been. Look for splices in the
wiring which will have corroded. Repair the wiring then check the fuse. Another problem may be in the motor found inside the door.
The brushes may have worn out. If so you need to replace the motor.
Ususally the drivers side will fail first since it is the most used.
