If the alternator fuse has failed, you can usually get one in most auto parts stores. After replacing it, check the alternator for external and internal grounding of the wiring. The fuse protects the system from damage caused by a short. Therefore, replacing the fuse is fixing the result, not the cause of the real problem. Before attempting to re-start the engine, fully charge the battery. Not doing that can cause a voltage spike that will blow the new fuse, even if nothing else is wrong.

I have 05 kia rio. jump started dead battery but the cables were crossed and killed it instead. purchased new battery. car stuck in park. worked when screwdriver in override button but still won'

There is a large maxi-fuse between the battery and alternator. Its at least 100 amp or more. It may be in the cable at the battery, or in one of the fuse boxes.
You may also have damaged the key switch or the brake circuit.
You may have to get a book to get the wiring diagrams to check everything involved.

Battery went dead changed it now no power inside the dash is dead only air bag light no radio no a/c no windows no alternator truck starts i touch a hot wire to the ecu fuse inside of truck and everthing...

Hook the battery up or try to jump-start backwards did we?
The ECU fuse gets it's power from the 140 Amp (or 180 Amp, depending on which engine your vehicle is equipped with) ALTERNATOR fuse in the engine compartment fuse block.

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

good luck

Battery was completely dead- so I just purchased a new one. The weather had been very cold with plenty of snow 0-25F. Did not attempt to start my car for about ten days but when I did the battery was...

That would probably be your alternator. The car doesnt take as much power to keep running as the lights. The lights use alot of power and if the battery is doing the alternators job it drains quickly. The battery is only designed to start the car then the alternator should take over and recharge the battery. When the alternator fails the battery will soon fail. Even though you had to jump the battery it was still new so it had a big charge. That is why you were able to drive so far. On an old battery and a jump I've seen people drive a long ways until they turn on their lights. I say 99.99% sure it's your alternator. Here is how you can test it. Get your car jump started again or charge your battery and start your car. While it is running get out and unhook the positive battery cable from the battery. If your car dies, you have found your problem(the alternator). I hope that I could be of some help. Good luck.

My car won't start, you hear one click, but nothing, we have to jump it to get to start. The alt. and the batt. and the starter work fine.. Plus our headlights don't work.

If the vehicle need to be jumped then the battery is too weak to start the car.
1. replace battery
2. with good battery start car and check charging system If voltage reads below 13volts possibly the alternator is bad.

Check bulb in headlight ( do not touch the glass part of the head lamp)
a good way to check is replace one with a new one see if it comes on.
If not check fuse for the headlamps ( I am assuming you are talking about low beams)

Battery just went dead, i can't open the trunk to jump start the battery. how can i open the trunk w/ a dead battery?

If you can open the hood, you can jump start the car at the alternator. Put the positive jumper cable on the large + wire on the alternator, and attach the negative - to any bracket or to the engine block and this will start your car, or open the trunk.

Jimmy would not start, voltmeter read 9. After jumping battery, engine started but voltmeter did not go above 9. Battery symbol did not light up. Alternator or battery with high resistance?

sounds either like your alternator is bad, if it still goes dead then i would go with the alternator, other wise a cell or two could be bad or shorted in the battery.

The abs light came on and air conditioner started blowing hot. After work the batt was dead. Jumped it and guages were dead for about 30 sec. About 10 miles later abs light went off and air got cold again....

It sounds like the engine is running on battery power only. The engine of today`s technology needs the alternator to have enough ignition to run on,lights and computer, etc, will be affected by low voltage, and amps. The alternator is not charging, look for a charging fuse to see if it is blown. If the fuse is fine, replace the alternator, and have the battery recharged on a slow 2 amp charge so it will recover it`s loss of deep cycle amps. This will prolong battery life and alternator. If I can help let me know.Let me know the out come.
