Question about Toyota RAV4

1 Answer

When i put my foot on the gas and start to drive it hesitates a few seconds and inches for a few seconds, and then drives until i have to stop at the stop sign 4 yards away, then it jerks and inches again and then drives ok until i have to stop at a light or stop sign. It acts like it cold or something is it the ecu needs to be reset or the throttle needs to be clean, or is the transmission?

Hi Corey,

Maybe this is a dumb idea, but have you checked the oil level. If you have a leak and the level gets too low you will lose drive, usually around corners to begin with, or up or down lhills etc. Another way of clearing the computer is to switch off everything on the car and disconnect the positive terminal of your battery. With this disconnected, switch on the headlights for a few seconds. (nothing will happen but you will clear any residual electricity in the system, switch them off again and reconnect your battery. Make sure that nothing is on to cause a spike or you can damage your control unit.

How do i put my 4x4 on my 95 yukon......on park or neutral. and do i have to put my foot on the brake?

You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi when the truck is moving. Just let off the gas and shift it. But in order to shift to Neutral or 4Lo you need to stop the truck and shift the transmission into neutral then shift the transfer case.

I have a t reg golf auto only done 30k but takes ages to change form second into third .

this is a computer controlled autobox.on a flat road put it into drive and without using the gas pedal let the car accelerate itself to max speed (about 35mph)then stop and do the same with only an inch of gas pedal.stop then gun it,put your foot hard down to the floor until you reach a speed that is just safe for the road conditions.
you have just reset the computer.....if you drive it gently for a few miles, you may feel a difference,if not then get it onto a diagnostic for a health check....

Car won't run without foot on accelerator.

its very important that the throttle body especially around the throttle blade be spotless clean or they will stall every now and then. then progress to refuse to idle at all. take off the rubber air intake pipe from the top of throttle body [has 3 torqes screws] open throtle by hand and look for carbon/grease/soot etc were the throttle sits when closed. clean with toothbrush and some caeb cleaner get all black off and dont forget the blade, both sides and the edges. scrub then rinse with carb cleaner untill shiny.spray some cleaner in the hole that is on top off the body to. that is your idle air controll motor port.put back together.it will be hard to start at first so hold gas pedal half way down untill it starts then slowly [real slow] let foot off untill you are no longer pressing it. put in reverse and let it idle there a few seconds then do the same in drive. that should do it. sometimes it may stall a couple of times when driving dont hold foot on gas just let it die then restart this allows the computer to readjust its idle stratagee

Hesitation upon initial depression of the accelerator from almost any speed

if the car does a nosedive then this will not help....
the autobox is a fuzzy logic, computer controlled unit that, will try to make you drive more gently(eco)the pedal position/roadspeed/air temp/humidity and load all play together to change up/down when it feels like it(almost)if you drive with a heavy foot it will learn to change higher up the rev range(more fun/fuel)if you drive gently this will feel like its hesitating(split second)try pressing down about an inch on the pedal
then after 100yds another inch and so on you will feel the difference.
