Jfb6, I take it that after replacing all the parts mentioned here that you still have the drag. Another reason for a drag is the flex lines. Sometimes these lines will look fine on the outside but will be deteriorating on the inside. What happens in this situation is the fluid is allowed to enter the caliper because of hydraulic pressure but will not be able to escape and relax the piston and will stay in the engaged position thus causing the drag. Try replacing these lines. Good luck with this.

Why are the Rotors getting so hot on the front and rear so hot I can not touch them.


The rotors are doing their job by getting hot
the purpose of the brakes is to change the kinetic energy of the spinning wheels to heat energy by the friction between the pads and the rotors (discs) This conversion of energy from kinetic to heat is what slows down the vehicle and stops it . The pads have no way of staying off the discs except by the air flow that is dragged under the pad by the friction with the disc So to sum up discs get hot by converting energy and the more energy you have the hotter they get
(watch high speed race cars at night and you will see the discs are white hot or bright red )
Back discs are slightly different as they don't come on as hard as the front discs and they also are affected by hand brakes out of adjustment
IF you feel that the discs are getting too hot for the distance covered there may be a problem in that the callipers are binding on the mounting bolts (pins) and are not centralizing and hence one pad will be in contact all the time This pad will show more wear then the other pad on the same disc.

Cant remove the calipar too change the brake pads on the front


You need to compress the calipar, sounds like a groove in the rotor, a big screw driver works

On a 1994 Chevy s10 pick up, how do you change the front brakes?


jack up frt end. remove wheels. take note of how the brakes go together. do 1 side at a time so you can use the other side as a referance. remove caliper bolts. use a c-clamp to push in caliper pistons. remove old pads. than remove caliper bracket and rotors.dont be afraid its not a big deal. make sure to check brake fluid level and pump the pedal when the job is completed.

How do you remove the front rotors. I changed my pads but not the rotors. I saw a screw in the rotor with a philip head. I tried using my philip screw driver but it wouldn't turn I was only going to strip...


your rotors are only held on by your brake calipar and wheel when its on..they get rusted on remove wheel break calipar and the rotor should come off use a rubber mallet and beat on rear side and itll pop off.

Replacing pads


This is usualy associated with either a bad caliper or the brake line to that caliper colapsing not allowing the fluid to release pressure therefore keeping the pads in contact with the rotor causing the drag.

Excessive dragging of new disc brakes


It's normal for new pads and rotors to have a "wear-in" period but only for say 50-100 miles of average driving... Disc brake DO get pretty hot, especially after prolonged or hard braking... (going down long hills or a lot of hard stops)... also front brakes actually supply 60% of stopping force... If they aren't to hot to touch the wheel or smoking you are probably OK... One thing to make sure of is that the pedal has "free play"... usually a fraction of an inch before the brake push rod actually pushes the master cylinder piston. Without this free play the brakes WILL drag all the time and wear prematurely... but unless you replaced the master cylinder or the locknut on the push rod adjuster has come loose it's rare to have that problem... The only other cause of this would be a malfunctioning ABS unit and you would feel a definite pulsation... Hope this helps...;-)

Breaks meaking load noises


Did you turn the rotors when you replaced the pads? if the rotors are not turned they will squall. Also you should have used some break quiet on the back of the pads you can get it at the parts store

Frontend problem


that sounds like the pressure regulator of your brakes is broken. The pressure does not release from the left side.
Unless it is the calliper, but i think you already checked that out. Pressure regulator is the main cause for problems like this.
It regulates pressure between back and front side

Front brakes binding and grinding


Sounds like your brake calibers are sticking. Get new ones and new pads. You probably should get new rotors also because with the dragging calibers they most likely got hot and are warped. Search on ebay and www.rockauto.com . I personally use power stop drilled and slotted rotors with mid grade pads. You can probably get a whole kit.
