Contacted the dealership and they had me call some lady who was supposed to help. She said since it was out of warranty Hyundai wasn't going to fix it. Even know they have had a lot of complaints and hyundai knows this is major problem they aren't going to replace the visor unless it is under warranty. I will never buy a hyundai again!

SOURCE: Sun visor on driver's side

I had the same problem in my 06 Sonata. The mechinism in the fisor that creates tension to hold it in place broke. It seems there is a certain position that if you try to rotate up or down, it cracks and goes limp. $115 for new one.

SOURCE: i have sun visor prob also

As they work on friction you may be able to
compress the material on the outside which will then give the inside more grip.
Put a cloth around the top of the visor to protect the material and use Mole grips with the half circle jaws or pliers of the same construction grips to squeeze the area around where the rod enters the visor

Other option is a wreckers yard?

Bring it back to the dealer. That happened to mine and they replaced it. Also had problems with the drivers seat. It would not go back & forth. Dealer fixed.

If under 60,000 miles, take it to the dealer for replacement - free of charge. Both sun visors on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata did the same thing and had them both replaced, but now out of warranty and driver's side has done it again so I'll have to pay to have it fixed. Looking for a used one online now. I guess this is just a defect in that particular model.

I have a 2007 Sonata and the driver's side sun visor broke. I called the dealership where I purchased the car, and was told that they only cover it for 5 years/60,000 miles. So if your's is broken, get it in there before the warranty expires. Otherwise the cost is around $80 for the visor unit.
