Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

My 2004 Chevy Cavalier started acting up a couple of weeks ago.It has a 2.2 Ecotec engine and about 94,000 miles on it.Whenever i would let off the gas to decelerate the RPM's would drop down to about 500 and sometimes even cause the vehicle to stall out unless i pressed on the gas a little to increase the RPM whenever i came to a stop. Also whenever it would idle it shook erraticly and would sputter badly and also smelled like rotten eggs.It did this for nearly a week and the morning of the day i was going to take it in to the shop it died on me and now it won't start. It tries to turn over but it just clicks over and over and has a backfire out of the exhaust.I bought a scan tool and the code read P0300 and P0172 both say that the system is running rich because of a random misfire.I replaced the ignition control module, spark plugs, and had my cadillac converter cleaned out.The car still won't start. Please help me i'm nine months pregnant and i have no car now and i'm not sure what to do to fix it!

Hi, I would try replacing the crankshaft position sensor. This sensor sends the signal the computer uses to time your sparks. It costs less than $20 and is easy to replace. It's mounted on the engine block with one bolt--just above the oil pan. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

PO300- The misfire detection monitor, a software strategy built into the computer, is designed to detect an engine misfire. The computer can also normally identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. A misfire is nothing more than a lack of combustion, which can be caused by poor fuel quality or metering, low compression, lack of spark or unmetered air entering the engine. There are other possible, less obvious causes as well, such as uncommanded Exhaust Gas Recirculatin (EGR), flow. When the misfire monitor detects a misfire, it will trigger the check engine light with the specific cylinder number as the last digit in the P030X code. For instance cylinder 1 misfire is P0301, cylinder 2 is P0302 etc. In this case we have either multiple cylinders misfiring, or the computer simply can't determine the specific cylinder, and as such we are left with the P0300 in computer memory.

You car emitting a rotten egg smell usually denotes a bad catalytic converter and would require replacing. These are quite expensive and need to be done at a repair shop or a muffler shop. They need to be welded in to you exhaust pipe. They will be able to help you further.

What are codes P0133 & P1134, for a 2005 Buick Lacrosse 3.8L V6 with 94,000 miles.

i have replaced an O2 sensor and had similar failure after 1500 miles.
I removed it, chkd it, reinstalled it and it ran fine.
P0133 is related to slow response of O2 sensor. P1134 is mfg specific so google that for ur car.

Can't find the oil filter for my chevy cavalier 2005

Your oil filter is located on the right side underneet the power steering oil. Its a black cap with a square notch on it to remove it.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this).

My car slowed down stoped wont start acts like it wonts to but wont i think it might be fuel filter or pump

sounds like it's not getting gas to the engine. i'm trusting there is gas in the tank. you are probably right about the pump.

2003 Audi A4 1.8T Check Engine light on

The CEL means there is a Diagnostic Fault Code stored in the Engine Control Unit. There are 1000's of DTC's, so you will need to have it read by a Code Reader. Auto Parts stores like Auto Zone, Pep Boys, perhaps even Advanced Auto often will read the code for you; but by law they cannot clear the codes. Many codes do not cause drivability problems, severe ones will trigger the ECU to run in a Limp Mode, which would require repair work before any trip longer than a few miles. Hope this is helpful.

I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu. Bogs down and stalls with acceleration. Check engine light flashes. Idols fine. Changed the MAP as it had a P0101 code along with the P0300. Changed the plugs 3 weeks ago and...

make sure you have ngk or ac delco iridium plugs installed. Also common problem on the 2.2L ecotec is the cat plugging. Easy check is to remove the front o2 sensor (very easy 22mm wrench) and start the car and rev it. If it revs freely now and does not bog the cat is plugged. They are covered fed. emissions warranty 8yr 80k, all gm dealers stock the cats for the 2.2 ecotec.

Engine Swap

There are several engines that will fit the 2.2l Ecotec, 2.4L high out put motor, and I have actually seen a chevy cavalier that has a 3800 V6 in it if you want to go all out but in most cases sticking with the ecotec motor or the 2.4 High Out Put motor would be best they are two of the best motors for these cars and since the Sunfire is basically the same car as the cavalier almost any thing motor wise is inner change able between cars depending on the motors i own an 2004 chevy cavalier LS sport and a buddy of myn has a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and both have the 2.2L Ecotec and are both Manual trans and even most of the interior parts are the same except for some of the dash board components hope this helps you out
