Something to consider- I don't know what your vehicle has for anti-theft protection but if you (properly) disconnected the battery during the installation of the new stereo, you may have triggered this mode and will need to renter the code for your system. BTW, if the need arises to disconnect (or replace) the battery, buy a simple device from an auto parts store that uses a standard 9V battery and plugs into a power jack or cigarette lighter and this will prevent from code-related systems from losing their 'minds' and re-entering codes necessary.

'99 dodge grand caravan it won't shift above first gear, the speedometer won't work, also dies when put in netural while driving???

Replace the out put speed sensor. The reason it is in 2nd gear.(limp mode) Looking down at the front of the transmission, it is the sensor on the right. The dieing could be a dirty air filter, throttle body and IAC motor.

Where is the speed sensor located on Dodge Ram 2000?

Chrysler products have a limp mode that will not shift past second gear when the computer senses a transmission problem. A failed speedometer will do it.

Limp mode

There are many different systems that could cause limp mode, engine, transmission, emissions... Limp mode is a safety that allows you to get off the street and to a shop for repairs without stranding you. Usually a significant failure eg trans will not shift.

How do i get my 2000 dogde carvan out of low gear

I'm guessing that the problem you have is the van only has 2nd gear. This is limp mode. You need to have the Transmission control module scanned for codes. You likely have a bad speed sensor. Does the speedometer work?

2000 dodge caravan transmission light is coming on and the trans goes into limp mode. there are no codes related to the trans showing up. just a vacume leak code. if i let it sit for a while and restart it...

to go into limp mode , there will be a fault code recorded
some scanners in use do not have the right protocol installed to read American cars so find an accredited service center with the right scanner and have the codes read
could be a problem ground wire or all wires and connections

My 2000 dodge caravan just went into its limp mode for the transmission. It is staying in second gear and will not shift higher. What could be the reason?

The transmissions available in your caravan are problematic for having a bad solenoid pack. Once the transmission is set in the LIMP IN mode, then you need to take it to a dealer to get the code reset from the transmission and to get it diagnosed properly. I'm sure there will be a code such as, "trans solenoid stuck in LR" which means " low range" if the transmission went into limp in mode, then that simply means it defaulted to second gear only. Which is telling you to have it looked at asap. I'm sure if you repalce the transmission solenoid pack and gasket and perform the re-learn procedure, then your problem will go away. good luck!

I have a 1991 Dode Caravan. It won't shift out of first gear, it's an automatic. Is the a cable from the throtle to the trans tat controls shifting? what could be the problem

it sounds like it is limp mode,
if the computer see a problem in the transmission it will keep it in first gear so you can limp to a shop for repairs.
check to see if your speedometer is working if not the problem is the output sensor

Car wont shift from 2nd gear and speedometer doesnt work. diagnostic code p0700. what does this mean?

the PO700 code is a generic transmission code. You would need access to a proper scan tool to check for transmission codes. However if you speedo isnt working, it sounds as though you have a bad output speed sensor. This part runs about 60.00 from the dealer, and is fairly easy to install. No speed signal will put the transmission into limp mode, and keep it stuck in 2nd gear.

2000 dodge caravan. Speedometer and odometer quit working and transmission will only work in reverse and low

hi there try to get a price on the speed sensor located on the transmission this sensor tells the computer how fast the van is going in turn the transmission shifts gears and there will be information sent to the speedometer . the reason the van only goes in low gear is to protect the system because the sensor is damaged so replace the speed sensor and try again , let me know how its running after relpaceing the sensor good luck
