Question about 2001 Ford Focus

2 Answers

I have a 2001 ford focus and went to get an inspection done and if failed due to my high beam lights are not working. I went to AutoZone and spend $30 getting new headlight bulbs. All fuses are good. What else could be the problem. The high beam indicator light inside the car don't even come on.

There is a relay for the high beams that may be faulty. That relay is located in the power distribution box located under the hood of the vehicle in the engine compartment. The relay location will be in the "R5" position in that panel (see diagram of layout below). Other then that you could be looking at a bad switch or a wiring problem nut pretty sure this will be your problem. I hope this helps and good luck.

Check fuses 26 and 27 for the high beams, with multi-function switch turned on for high-beams the green wire with yellow stripe should have 12 volts, if the green/yellow wire does not have 12 volts then the multi-function switch is bad. If there is 12 volts on the green and yellow wire with the high beams on then the high-beam relay is bad.

un plug one of the light connectors and check for power and verify ground with a 12v test light tool (available for cheap at the part store.) if there is 12v present, and a ground when switched to low beam, remove the bulb, inspect the filament. you will likely find it just has two burnt light bulbs

Headlights do not work. Beam works, park lights and other lights work. Bulbs ok

more than likely a fuse or a relay is bad. locate the fuse for the headlights (owners manual) and check if it is bad, if the fuse is good, find the relay and give it a flick or two and try the headlights then, if they work, its time for a new relay

LOW BEAMS NOT WORKING 2002 FORD FOCUS

Hi. i recommend a thorough inspection of the wiring harness and harness connectors that led to the actual headlights. use a volt meter to test the current flow to the connectors. pull the connectors from the back side of the headlights and test all cooper contacts inside the connectors. If the wire contacts all show voltage, this will confirm a switch malfunction. it should be replaced in this case.

Now, if one or more contacts on the wires harness fail to produce any voltage, this will confirm a faulty wiring harness. replace the wiring harness in this case.

Make sure the headlight switch is in the on position when testing the wires.
