Question about 2002 Buick Park Avenue

3.8L Turbo miss at 2300 RPM. Says #1 cyl. misfire. Changed plugs, plug wires, & coil pack. Still misses. What now? Would colder plugs help?

We are assuming that you problem or code stored there its the P0301 Code - Cylinder #1 Misfire

A P0301 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #1.

Symptoms may include:
the engine may be harder to start
the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0301 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
* If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
* If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.


Also, you are 100% sure you have no vacuum leaks at all from the intake manifold? Do you know how to flow the fuel injectors with a fuel guage hooked up to the fuel line test port and fire each injector and see if they all evenly drop the same PSI? But remember to only fire the injectors after you key it to get the fuel PSI at the same starting point to get accurate injector drop readings and try this bulletin too and see if this will fix it.

Subject: Information on Engine Misfire MIL/SES Light Illuminated or Flashing DTC P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, P0420 or P0430

Models: 1999-2007 Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC Full-Size Pickup and/or Utility Truck with 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L or 6.2L VORTEC GEN III, GEN IV, V-8 Engine (VINs V, C, T, Z, B, 3, M, 0, J, R, U, N, Y, K, 8 - RPOs LR4, LY2, LM7, L59, L33, LC9, LH6, LMG, LY5, L31, LQ4, LQ9, L76, LY6, L92) with Active Fuel Management(TM) and E85 Flex Fuel

If you encounter vehicles that exhibit the above conditions, refer to SI for the appropriate DTC(s) set. If no trouble is found, the cause may be due to an ECM ground terminal that has corroded with rust over time. Inspect the main engine wiring harness ground terminal (G103) for this condition.

The wire terminal (G103) attaches either to the front or to the rear of the right side cylinder head, depending on the model year of the Full Size Pickup and/or Utility Trucks. If the ECM ground terminal has been found to be corroded, then follow the service procedure outlined in this bulletin to correct the corrosion issue.

Remove either the nut or bolt securing the main engine wiring harness ground terminal (G103) to the right cylinder head. Refer to the above illustration to determine where the ground is located on the vehicle (1).

Remove all rust from the ground terminal, the cylinder head and the retaining nut or bolt.
Position the main engine wiring harness ground terminal and install the nut or bolt.

Tighten:
Tighten the retaining nut or bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

Apply some type of electrical moisture sealant to protect the harness terminal from further corrosion.

Replacement Spark Plugs Continually Misfiring for Cyl. #1


Locate the ignition coils - they are mounted on the ignition module. Remove the wide connector that goes to the module. You will have to unscrew it first. Spray some WD40 on the connector pins and try to scrub them with a tip of a small screwdriver. Be delicate not to brake or bend anything. Reconnect the connector. Start the engine and see if it still misses.
If it still does, try to touch/move each of the wires that go to the ignition module. BE VERY CAREFUL not to touch any of the moving parts of the engine as you have to do it with engine running.

If it still misses, do the following.
1. Engine off
2. Mark the ignition wires so that you reconnect them later in the same order
3. Locate the coil which gives spark for cyl 1
4. Switch locations of this coil with any of the two remaining coils
5. Reconnect the wires
6. Start the engine

If it now misses on another cylinder, you will have to buy a new coil.

I would say its the coil. A crank or cam sensor could cause one cylinder to miss, or go completely dead, but I doubt it would affect two cylinders. And you would get a code for either sensor.

Motor will miss at times can see volt meter will drop 1-2 volts when at idle at 35-65 mph a miss or **** off and on fuel new plugs & wires,added fuel treatment,had analized shows no falts


The battery could be gone or you have an
Alternator issue

Any thing added to the fuel tank is not necessary
& just a waste of money. Those products are not
a subsitute for a repair

You do not need new plug wires every time you visit
a repair shop. They last for 15 years if handles correctly

99 dodge caravan #4 cylinder misfires, i replaced spark plug wires and spark plugs. Scanner showed #4 still misfiring, could this be the coil?


It could very well be a bad coil pack,or you have low compression in that cylinder.If the compression is good then go with the coil pack,if not you may need a head gasket or an intake manifold gasket.

I have 02 L300 3.0 with cylinder1 miss fire.I


Swap the coil pack to another cylinder if it is individual. If not, you should be able to pull the wire away from the plug and hear it fire. If not, you have a bad coil. If so, I would look at doing a compression test and possibly a leak down test.

did the car over heat for long?
there could possibly be damage to your head like warping due to overheating and blowing a head gasket or something along those lines .
first check the oil dipstick is it milky?
then check the coolant is it oily?
and when it is running is it blowing any white smoke?
if you replaced the plugs and it is misfiring did you plug the wire all the way back on the plugs if not then the problem is a plug wire being loose and loosing connection with the plug.
sounds like a simple fix if you don't have water in your oil or white smoke coming out the exhaust.
troubleshooting it can be a bigger job but if you nail the right symptoms down you can corner the problem.
like if it is a coil pack or bad wire switch them with another one and see if the problem follows the wire or coil pack.for instance take the number one plug wire off and the number two wire off and put the number one wire on number two and see if the number one misfires. if so then the wire is the problem if not then try numbers three and four until you find out which cylinder is the culprit.

Change the coil that's the only thing you did not change and a coil if it's weak will cause a miss fire. You can do a compression check on #3 also. If timing was out the truck would be missing like crazy. Change the coil pack.

ok since you said you changed the plug and coil pack, start with the injector wire harness and look it over for any shorts or grounds, also make sure the terminals on the no.2 injector connector aren't loose. if you have access to a noid light you can check to make sure the injector is pulsing. check the no.2 plug wire as well. swap it with another wire if you can and see if the miss follows the plug wire. if those fail to solve your problem and the misfire remains on the no.2 cyl, try swapping an injector. if that also fails then you may have a problem with the cyl head.
