Some fault code is stored in the PCM (computer), generally could be some emissions code, but to know excalty what faulto code is, you need scanned the PCM. Some Autozone or Autoshop with scanner reader sometimes make this job for free.

Hope helps

Yes, I read, but I could say you...you think that your vehicle is running fine.

If your scanned job show some code fault number , come back and send us this for additional diagnostic details and tips to solve it.

    Good luck.

Greetings again, you managed to obtain additional information? If there Autozone, one option might be to purchase a scanner or see your dealer only to make this diagnosis and read codes.

If it makes itselft, here you can get details of each of them; all DTC (DIagnostic Trouble Code) for Ford -->> Team-Tech/426113

The check engine light has nothing to do with engine fluids, please read description of operation below.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.
When the Check Engine is turned on by the computer control unit (called the PCM) the PCM has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.

I am aware fluid levels aren't always the issue. I just checked them anyways. My other car did this as well and had to get the comp system reset. Due to living in BC, Canada there is no Autozone here so will have to take it to my personal mechanic.

Fluid levels are never the problem when the PCM turns on the Check Engine light. Good luck with this and have a great day!

  • The check engine light simply means that a sensor sent an error code to the ECM and the check engine light comes on. Sometimes it's just a glitch of sorts. You might just go to Auto Zone and have them pull the code for free. Then write it down and in the mean time have the code reset at Auto Zone. Maybe it won't come on again but with the code pulled you will know the cause in the first place and be ready to fix it if it is a progressive problem.

Regards, Tony

    Hi Tony...

Thankyou very much for your response to my question. I kind of figured this might be the problem. Will probably have to take it to my mechanic to have it reset. I live in Canada so no Autozone here.

Sensors don't send codes, the PCM reads the sensors and based on the inputs from other sensors and information stored on the EPROM the PCM will turn the light on if it see's a fault that repeats three times. This is the simple version of how the Check Engine light is turned on.

Take your car to an autozone they can scan the codes for you. Your on-board diagnostic is telling you something is wrong. They cannot tell you exactly what is wrong but they can point you in the right direction. Can't beat it for the price of free. If you want to know exactly what is wrong you will need to take it to a licensed ford mechanic or dealer.

check all fluid levels including the radiator at the cap. Run the fault codes and find out what put the light on. It is there to advise you that continued running may result in serious engine/ transmission damage so check it out asap.

First thing I would check is transmission fluid level. The fluid should be checked with engine warm, engine running, in park and good idea to have emergency brake on. You may know this but many people check transmission with engine off and think it is overfilled. I met one a couple months. It happens.

Check oil light stays on

Your vehicle may have an "oil level" sensor built into the oil pan. If so, and the sensor is bad, the dash will constantly tell you that the engine needs more oil even if it does not. Checking the oil with the dipstick, a minute after the engine has been turned off on level ground is always the best way to check your oil. Try scanning the vehicles computer systems to see if there are any fault codes. The warning light may also be on a timer that just needs to be reset. The "Check Oil" light should be separate from the engine oil pressure warning light. As long as the engine oil pressure light stays off, you should be ok. Checking the oil pressure with a manual gauge would be a good idea as well.

Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.
Low brake fluid level can cause both lights to come on and stay on

2004 Pontiac Grand am. The car wont start when cold without starting fluid. But when warm it starts just fine. Also no gauges work and the battery and oil lites stay on when running. Any idea's???

You mentioned that the battery light stays on, which suggests that the battery may be the problem. Corrosion on the battery coils may have built up, making it time for a replacement. If you have a store like AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts in your area, you can take your car there for a free diagnostic (of the battery). They also offer free checks on engine light trouble codes, etc. The oil light issue may indicate a leak, perhaps from a damaged oil pan. Only a certified technician would be able to help you determine that part. If you do have an oil leak, make sure to keep extra bottles of motor oil with you. If the levels get to low or run out, you could destroy your engine. Good luck!

Gauges work fine when engine's started, then oil gauge falls below zero and warning light comes on saying "Check gauges," so I check the oil and transmission fluid levels and these are fine but...

start by checking the ground strap to the engine, and engine to body. The oil pressure sender unit may be bad. You may have to hook up an oil pressure gauge to the oil pressure sender port to verify proper oil pressure. Senders are cheap- I would just replace it and go from there.

The service engine soon light is on. The check engine light had come on several times the day before. The check fluid light had come on & went off. Added 2 qts. of oil to the engine and it is fine....

Have the computer scanned if you want a quick scan have Auto Zone or the like scan it for free , they also will give you a printout of the problem code, if any, that may be stored in the computer system.
Trans. fluid is only checked on a running in park warm engine, if it is not running the fluid will read too high on the stick showing an overfilled condition, use only recommended fluid, should have the type requirements stamped on the transmision dip stick.
When filling do it slowly and add only half a quart at a time checking the level each time as to not over fill.
The trans. fluid and filter should be changed every 30,000 miles as preventive maintenance proceedures.
Hope this helps, good luck!!

97 Altima dashboard brake light stays on

Check your brake fluid level in the engine compartment. Its located on the rear RH side of the engine compartment, its a white/clear resevoir connecting to a large black circular object. If the fluid is low, fill to proper level, also I would recommend having your brake system checked as there may be a leak. If the fluid is fine and at the proper level, you may have a damaged/broken brake fluid level sensor or damaged/broken Emergency brake switch. Hopefully this helps....please rate thanks!!

Service engine soon & brake light stays on

the service engine light is prob due to the oxygen sensor being damaged, not replace or you having the catalytic converter taken off---just messing with you. start at auto zone and have then do a free code read then go from there. you should troubleshoot the low fluid level switch for your brake fluid. unplug it and see if the light goes off and if it doesn't jump the two terminals on the harness. oh the car will have to be running.
