The speed cluster work from the ABS speed sensors that have separate computer it is on engine compartment near battery and brake booster. This computer work independent and only get 12v and can bus send all the info by a can bus 2 wires that run to dodge ECM same wires run to cluster. I make a diesel swap speed work ok but not my RPM any ideas
sounds like a bad speed sensor, if sensor doesnt tell computer what speed your traveling then trany doesnt know what gear to select, try replacing speed sensor, that should solve your problem,im suprised check engine light didnt come on, anyway good luck hope this helps.
The speedometer uses a the signal from the speed sensor on the drivers side of the transmission near the tail shaft. The sensor is held in with a retaining bolt and pulls out after removing the bolt.
OVERDRIVE ENGAGEMENT IS TIED TO THE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL, THE SYSTEM WILL NOT GO INTO OD UNTIL THE CAR REACHES A CERTAIN SPEED, IN MOST CASES AROUND 35-40 MPH, THE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL TELLS THE ECU WHEN THE CORRECT SPEED HAS BEEN REACHED.
