Now what do you want to change from a proper system that we all understand to some obsolete outdated victorian invention,well the truth of the matter is this vehicle will only work in the correct celcius system and i dont think it will convert

My 1998 gmc jimmy slt has a heating problem. The heater wont turn off. As long as the car is on the heater is on full blast. The fans work and everything knob wise works but the heater is always on.


The air temperature valve electronic actuator positions the temperature door according to the temperature setting of the temperature control on the temperature control knob. For the full COLD temperature setting, the temperature control returns approximately 12 volts to the air temperature valve electric actuator. When the temperature setting is changed to full HOT, the temperature door is moved to the warm position and the output drops to about 0 volts. For a temperature setting in the mid range, the temperature door is positioned according to the voltage supplied through the temperature control switch.

  1. Disconnect the air temperature valve sensor.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Move the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  4. Using the J 35616-A , connect a J 39200 Digital Multimeter (DMM) between cavity 8 (CKT 733) of the air temperature valve motor connector and ground.
  5. Move the temperature control knob from the HOT position to the COLD position.
Does the voltage vary smoothly and continuously within the specified range?
0-12 V

Using the J 35616-A , connect a J 39200 DMM between cavity 10 (CKT 341) of the air temperature valve motor connector and ground.
Does the voltage equal the specified value?

Car hiccups and stalls


Although your temperature gauge may show that it works, some models have a second temperature sensor for the engine management system.
That second sensor provides info which sets curb idle and timing advance. The "Cold start" feature is a part of this. The hic-cup is something of a bucking symptom as the engine controls toggle between hot and cold run settings repeatedly as water temperature is not stable.
In the past, I found several 1984 engines having defective thermostats which are tied into "Step-up" solenoids for the curb idle. What happens is idle speed is suppose to drop when the engine is hot.
When someone adjusts the curb idle while the engine is on the "cold setting", the setting(rpm) will be too low once the engine has heated up and the part drops to a hot setting.
So to clearly define your problem, you have 2 stemming from the same defects. The "in motion" problem is caused by timing changes based on temperature and the "idle" problem is caused by improper adjustment of the curb idle solenoid because of unstable operating temperature.
What you want to do is change your thermostat. This will give you a stable temperature. Then let the engine heat up and you should notice a "click" and the engine should idle down. It may stall. Then turn the idle rpm up until the engine will not stall.
The hic-cups should disappear once the operating temp is reached. If you still have problems then look for the water temperature sensors before replacing expensive parts.

Where is the coolant sensor on a 93 century. 3.3 v6 I can't find where it is located. Top or bottom? Front or back?


A variety of sensors provide information to the ECM/PCM regarding engine operating characteristics. These sensors and their functions are described below. Be sure to take note that not every sensor described is used with every engine application. Coolant Temperature (ECT) The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) is a thermister (a resistor which changes value based on temperature) mounted on the engine coolant stream. As the temperature of the engine coolant changes, the resistance of the coolant sensor changes. Low coolant temperature produces a high resistance (100,000 ohms at 40°C/40°F), while high temperature causes low resistance (70 ohms at 130°C/266°F). The ECM/PCM supplies a 5 volt signal to the coolant sensor and measures the voltage that returns. By measuring the voltage change, the ECM/PCM determines the engine coolant temperature. The voltage will be high when the engine is cold and low when the engine is hot. This information is used to control fuel management, IAC, spark timing, EGR, canister purge and other engine operating conditions. A failure in the coolant sensor circuit should either set a Code 14 or 15. These codes indicate a failure in the coolant temperature sensor circuit.

Is there no heat even with the temperature set to max ? There is a TSB ( TSB 08-23-6 ) where when the temperature is set between 68-72* F, EATC ( Electronic Automatic Temperature Control ) has intermittent operation. The same TSB covers inability to control temperature output on the EMTC ( Electronic Manual Temperature Control ) HVAC controls. There is a new temperature blend door actuator ( p/n : 9L3Z-19E616-E ) to cure the problem, if these symptoms match the ones you are having.

There are two sensors connected to the thermostat housing and i need to know which sensor is which and what they control. on cold days i cant get started


The larger of the two is the coolant temperature sensor. The other is the actual gauge temperature sensor. The coolant temp. sensor gives information to the cars computor & when the car reaches a predetermined temperature, the computor changes the ignition timing allowing the car to run at normal operation temperature settings. The temperature sensor gives info to the dash board gauge &/or temp. warning light. The reason you can't start on cold days is that your coolant temp. sensor is stuck in advanced mode & the timing is to far advanced . To remedy this problem change the coolant sensor. Good luck!

2001 crysler town & Country 3.3. when it gets really cold the engine wont warm up. heater doesn't work. replaced thermostat and water pump. still no heat


Hello Justin.
If your thermostat has been replaced with the proper one your engine is heating up.
The problem then becomes twofold.
The amount of coolant/antifreeze flowing through the heater core or a problem with the airflow over the core inside the heater plenum assembly.
I would check for coolant flow through the core first.
If the heat feels like it is warmer coming out an outlet with the fan on a low setting rather than a high one your heater core isn't flowing enough.
To verify you can also check the two hoses that go through the firewall to your heater core once the vehicle has been warmed up, feel the temperature difference between the two. They should both be almost hot enough not to hang on to and close to equal temperature. A hand held temperature gun is really handy for doing this.
If one is hotter than the other your heater core has restricted flow and will need to be flushed or replaced.
Next is to check your temperature blend door operation.
Move the control to hot and cool and listen for the door to move and feel for the temperature to change, if it does at all. The fan on low setting is best to listen and feel temperature changes.
If you feel a temperature change or hear the door thump at each end of it's travel it is OK.

are you saying u can't change the air temperature? do the blower speeds work ok? can u change the locations the air comes from, i.e. dash registers, defrost, floor?
