How do I replace the passenger side door mirror on a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan?

This is not the mirror I have, it has a single bolt and a hook to hold it to the door, and the wire with the plug goes into the door; how do I release the door panel? I need to free the top, front corner of the door panel to feed the plug and wire into the door to make the connection.

  • raffleck May 28, 2011

The video is not relevant to the 2008 Grand Caravan. The power mirror is held on by one bolt and a "twist and hook" metal hook half way up the mirror. The problem is the mirror wiring goes down into the door, and I am unable to remove the door panel to thread the cable and plug down to make the connection. I have tried reasonable force to the lower edge of the panel, but nothing gives.

I have removed the triangular trim from the inside of the doo, exposing the bolt and hook. The poweer mirror wire goes down into the door, and I cannot get the door panel off to let me unplug the old wiring and re-connect the new. Simply prising at the edges does not do it. The problem is removing the door panel.

Thank you for your comment. As previously stated, this is not how the mirror on the 2009 Caravan is fitted. The main problem is that the wire goes into the door to make the connection, and I cannot get the door panel off.

  1. Remove the passenger side pillar cover. Then remove the black trim piece shaped like a triangle.
  2. Disconnect the wiring harness for the side view mirror.
  3. Remove the nuts that hold the side view mirror to the frame.
  4. Remove the old side view mirror.
  5. Installation of the new side view mirror is the opposite of removal.
If you need any more assistance, feel free to ask.

Welcome to Fixya

These instructions will work for driver's side and passenger side mirrors.

Things that You'll Need:

  • Allen wrench
  • Skinny flat head screwdriver
  1. Step 1 First, you have to remove the old side mirror on the Dodge Caravan. There are three screws to locate to do this. Open the door next to the mirror and look under the mirror. There is the first screw looking at you. You will need your Allen wrench to remove it.
  2. Step 2 The other two screws are hidden by a panel. Look closely at the area where the side view mirror attaches to the Dodge Caravan. There is an inset triangular piece. Take the flat head screwdriver and stick it in the crevice of the triangular piece and pop it out.
  3. Step 3 That is where you will find the final two screws. Use the Allen wrench and remove them. The side mirror will still be connected because of the power cord that moves the mirror and heats it.
  4. Step 4 Save the screws, you will need them again. Your new mirror probably did not come with their own set.
  5. Step 5 Time to move inside the vehicle. Look at the piece that runs between the door and windshield. It goes from the dash to the ceiling. You will have to take the screwdriver again to wedge under this piece. It's held on by clips and should easily pull away from the metal.
  6. Step 6 If you are replacing the passenger side mirror, you will have to remove the handle on this piece. To do that simply use that flat head screwdriver to remove the screw covers. Unscrew the handle and remove it.
  7. Step 7 Next you will have to lift up the front dash speaker cover. Under the speaker cover is the connector for the power mirror. You will not have to lift the whole thing, just the end. You will just have to be able to slide your hands inside.
  8. Step 8 Disconnect the mirror and slide the cord out, freeing the side mirror.
  9. Step 9 Remove the triangular piece from the replacement mirror.
  10. Step 10 Take the new mirror and slip the cord into the same hole and connect it to the power cord.
  11. Step 11 Go back to the outside and screw the mirror back onto the outside of the Dodge Caravan. Screw it tight so the side mirror does not shake when driving.
  12. Step 12 Replace the triangular cover to the outside of the mirror.
  13. Step 13 Return to the inside of the minivan and replace the speaker cover.
  14. Step 14 Snap the inside cover back on and replace the handle, if necessary.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Please refer to the video below.
You would need a flathead screwdriver to pry the panel out and ratchet torque set for the bolts.

If you are just referring to the mirror you would need a screw driver to pry the mirror out since it is clipped to the panel inside the assembly.

SOURCE: Replacing side mirror on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

It's not that hard to replace the passenger side mirror. You will be able to do it yourself. I will tell you how. Remove the screw holding the molding to the base of the mirror and remove the molding. Remove the screws and detach the mirror. (if it is electric mirror just unplug the electrical connector. Installation is the reverse of removal. Hope this will help you.

Need to replace broken right hand mirror on a 2008 dodge caravan.

Could be screwed on from inside the door and might have to remove inner door panel for access. OR there may be some screws on the outside - if nada maybe the cover can be carefully pried off to expose the screws. If you google this I am sure you will find something re how to. Just be careful since you do not want to damage the paint job on door.

How do I remove the passenger side power mirror on 98 caravan?

If you're lucky, on the inside of the door, will be a triangular panel right behind the mirror that you can pop off. If you're not as lucky and it's one piece or the panel is blocked by the door panel, you'll need to remove the door panel to change it.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws (these screws may be covered by filler pieces or may be visible, or they may require you pry a plastic piece off that covers the screws) that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can remove the bolts holding the mirror onto the door

Mirror on passenger side of a 2004 Dodge Caravan broken off.

It is $47.40 plus tax for the left side replacement glass only and $54.00 plus tax for the right side glass only. These can be installed by just about anyone I believe they just pop in. If it is the whole mirror assembly then it could be much more than that. Good luck.
